For sale is an uncommon vintage Craftsman Surveyors Compass. The directions. On the box lid, direct the user to place the instrument over the transit's leveling bubble with the"S" South closest to the eyepiece. Has locking device on side to keep needle in place when angle has been obtained. No model number or other information. Would guess it is from the 1940's. Measures 3 1/8" diameter and stands 1 3/4" tall. The mounting bracket is 2" X 1" with 5/8" inside measurement between narrow end of mounting prongs. Questions welcome.

Glass is all intact and not broken. The level in the center appears to be functioning fine when you set it on a level surface. The scope measures about 12" total length. Vintage Dietzgen Transit Level Model 6300 series. Serial# 84499 with Case I do not know much about these except what I can check. My family used to survey when I was young but I never took up the trade. It has been stored in a closet for at least half a century. The base adjust up and down. The magnification adjusts, the lenses look to be in great condition and the piece has most of its original paint. The base of storage case is Die cast and top of case is I believe some fibered glass. The unit is heavy brass and steel. All adjust knobs turn freely and level and bubbles look in good working condition. Could use a good cleaning by a person with more knowledge of this piece. I hate to part with a family piece but it does me no good to keep and hope it is used and appreciated.
