Upon recieving this item. We realized something inside had come loose or had broken some how. So we opened it up and found that the rattling we were hearing was indeed caused by not one. But a few parts that had come loose. These loose parts do not appear to have been"broken" off. But rather, it appears they have become dislodged from wherever they mounted. The real issue is going to be with a component inside the unit which DID break.This component looks like it served as some type of joining coupler between the upper main body of unit and the rotating base assembly. The material that broke looks like it may be carbide.a super hard. But ... morebrittle metal. You can see the broken component in the last photo. It is the part that once joined these two assemblies and is located in the very center of the two main components shown in photo. We believe this breakage is what caused the smaller components to become dislocated. Needless to say. We are selling this unit As-Is. You are viewing a Vietnam War era Wild Heerbrugg T-2 Theodolite. This is a US military surveying instrument used to precisely survey roads and airfields during the Vietnam War. After the war. The US Dept. of Agriculture Forest Service obtained some of these instruments to be used in the surveying of federal lands. The Wild T-2 is a 1 second instrument. The military measured angle in unites called mils. The horizontal and vertical verniers both read in mils. There are 6400 mils in a circle. Another unique feature of the T-2 is the inverted image in the eyepiece. This was done to reduce the distortion caused by another lens to make an image upright. An added bonus is a set of mounting standards for an EDM. These can be removed if you desire. The tribrach included with this item is an early model Wild Heerbrugg design. Wild Heerbrugg Theodolite T2 Mod
Made in Switzerland. Serial Number 189893. Purchased by my collector husband in 2004. It appears to be complete. It has a carrying handle on the unit itself. A metal, protective canister and an orange heavy plastic carrying case with scuff marks. It has obviously been used, apparently in New York judging from stickers. There are 3 bulbs and a cable included. Attached at the bottom. Underneath the unit are additional(what appear to be) eye pieces and a plunger to activate. Also to be included is a CD of the Manual for a T2 and T16 apparently downloaded from the wild-heerbrugg web-site. The previous seller who acquired it through auction of a large lot purchase wrote he"looked at the scope closely and tried all the adjustments and can honestly say it has been well cared for and everything functions very well. Great North American Theodolite made in the 1930s. In its Original Case and with Wooden Base This is a theodolite made in the United States in the 1930s. It's DAMAGED. But it can be repaired. It is an instrument used by topographers to measure pieces of land, full of vintage charm and boasting a very decorative design. The theodolite comes in its original wooden case and stands on a base made of the same material. The instrument’s body is made of black-enameled iron and it has also brass parts. All the components and pieces are original from those times, as well as the case and the wooden base. This item has a damaged piece: the axe that connects the bottom and upper parts of the theodolite. It is a broken metal rod that can be easily substituted by a new one in order to join both sections again. The telescope is also damaged but the ... morerest of the pieces are in good condition. The levels’ bubbles are the original ones and are intact. As well as the rest of the instrument’s components.
