1884? Buff& Berger Navy Recon Transit Theodolite MINT ORIGINAL This is a rare small size Brass Buff& Berger Recon Transit/ Theodolite. The Buff& Berger partnership did not last for very long. This is serial number 4 of a group of six that were made for the US Navy. I bought it along with the others from a major long standing collection. The Brass upright support is marked US NAVY with an N in Circle logo and the number 4. The storage board is also marked with a 4. Apparently the only one that was used was number 5 as it has a 1904 repair label. It was found int the original Carry Case packed in wood shavings which have been discarded. It has a 3 inch Compass needle and a 4 inch full elevation Circle. It remainds me a lot of the Gurley Explorer Model. The Compass has a Vernier Azimuth scale and a fine Azimuth adjust. Both the Azimuth ... moreand Elevation Silvering is brilliant. The 8 3/4 inch Telescope has 3 Horizontal Reticles making it a Theodolite. The Reticles are perfect and the presentation is clear. It retains the original front Dust Cover. Both Bubble levels are perfect. The Lacquering on the Brass is absolutely outstanding original. I have owned many transits fo this period and have never seen one so well preserved. All adjustments work properly. All screw heads are perfect. It has never been worked on. The only minor patina/ defects if you call them that is a darkened spot on the Azimuth Vernier scale and some fine oil bubbles on the back of the Compass glass which are a byproduct of glass decomposition. It can be cleaned off. The original case shows some exterior patina and has and in tact carry handle. The interior is fresh. There was a small split where the top hinge screws to the door that I reglued. Apparently a design defect as all of them have the same problem. The Label is missing from the inside box cover. Early A. Leitz San Francisco Theodolite Transit. The serial number is 6921. All the level vials are intact. And the optics are clear with no damage. When I move the focus knob to the extreme close up, I can see a horizontal reticle in the lower quadrant. When I focus the lens at 100 yards, I can see no reticle. Mechanically the transit is in excellent condition. All the knobs work as they should. The wooden case is solid, but the bottom eye for the hook to secure the lid is missing. HUET vintage French Theodolite-must see
This instrument is a real beauty. I was not able to date it. But it appears to be pre-WWI, and perhaps even the late 19th Century. Just the case is a real beauty. The leather straps, which have largely disintegrated, could easily be replaced, since they are held by screws. Optics are good and everything appears to be in place, including a protective cover. It appears to be made mainly or all of brass. All controls are fully operational. It is made by the French optical company, Huet, but I was not able to find more info on this Model, Model 144, but is somewhat similar to the Exploration Theodolite pictured in Wikipedia.

It is Model 75-300 and the serial number is 201191. This is very clean. Functioning K&E Transit with good glass. It is one of the longest focal length theodolites I have encountered. Tripod screw = 3.5" x 8 Thread. Transit comes in it's original box which is solid, has a strong strap, but is rough outside& in need of refinishing- dovetailed. One of the brass corner protectors has come off. But it is inside the box. There is no plumb bob. As far as I can tell this is solid painted brass. Antique mid 1800's Land Surveyor's Theodolite and wood tripod. A very nice brass theodolite made in mid 1800's by optical and instrument maker. John Dennett Potter at Poultry- London, England. The brass 10 1/2" telescope has a lens cap. Sun shield and eyepiece extension tube. The brass horizontal circle is 5 1/2" wide and the chamfered vernier silvered scale is 5 1/2" wide. The telescope comes in with its original plumb bob and mahogany carrying case with brass handles. Inside the case are two labels. One is a service label dated 7/29/43 from R.D. LEAF Brooklyn, N.Y. and another is a label from W. L. GURLEY Troy. N.Y. Included with the theodolite is a period wood tripod with a brass protective screw cap. Data to be used in a GIS database: A little history from the net here: At the heart of the innovations that led to the Canada Geographic Information System was the fundamental idea of using computers to ask questions of maps and to render useful information from them. Up for sale is a Pentax TH-06D Theodolite. It is tested and functions great. it shows some signs of wear and the edges. The plastic cover for the battery compartment has a small crack on it. But does not stop it from holding tight on. Everything turns nice and smooth just like it should. The front element is clean and free of any marks. It comes with batteries and original orange case. Brothers, were born in Troy, New York; William in 1821and Lewis in 1826. In 1839, William graduated as a civil engineer from Rensselaer Institute. After going as far west as Michigan seeking employment as an engineer and finding none, he returned to Troy and went to work for five years as a foreman for Oscar Hanks, a surveying instrument maker. In 1845, William formed a partnership with Jonas Phelps under the firm name of Phelps& Gurley. In 1844, Lewis Gurley had become an apprentice to Jonas Phelps. Then from 1847 to 1851 Lewis Gurley attended the Union College in Schenectady and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. But I need to mention that I have no idea how to use one of these or exactly how things are supposed to function, so things could be missing, not working properly, however it appears to have been looked after quite carefully. Here is a great old Kueffel and Esser surveying transit. I do not know the model number on this K& E Transit. Oneof the yokes on thsi transit has cracked and looks to have been repaired with epoxy of some type. Not the pretiest repair but it seems solid. There is a repair tag attached. Everything appears to be in working order. Optics appear clear. There is some tarnish to the brass. Some dust, some scratches. To me trhe transit looks completely usable as is. Would definitley benefit from a nice cleaning though. Awesome library or office decoration. Great usable vintage piece of surveying history from a reputable company. David White Co. 6061 Balloon Theodolite
For sale here is a David White Co. 6061 Balloon Theodolite. The plate says No. 91024. Olive green in color and comes with wooden storage/transport box. Box is sturdy but has many scratched. Nicks and chips. Is also olive green. The top part of the box has blue paint on it. The theodolite appears to be in good shape and everything on it moves freely. I have no way to test it other than turning it. It was given to me by my grandfather who is a surveyor who had it for many years. It is being sold as is. Thanks for looking! Happy bidding.

T1610 Leica/Wild Electronic Theodolite
This is a used electronic theodolite which can be used alone or as part of a total station with the addition of an add-on distance meter(distance meter not included in this auction) The optics on this Leica/Wild instrument are perfect. The least count for the horizontal and vertical angle measuring function is 1/10 of an arc second! The outside of the case has some nicks and scratches but the theodolite itself has no blemishes at all. If you bid on this instrument be aware that the tribach(leveling base) is not original equipment and is not adequate for this instrument. Please adjust your bid to take into account for my recommendation that the tribach will need to be replaced. The on-board nicad battery will not hold a charge and needs to be re-celled. I no longer have the battery charger that goes with this unit. When I purchased this in ... morethe late 1990's the electronics powered up and all functions worked properly.
