I've switched the springs back and forth and the lower and top work fine with the spring in. Also on the bottom part when u retract it up its gets kinked up on something. The top part slides out smooth but the bottom part u have to actually pull a little on it to get to go all the way up. The scuffs and scratches do nothing to hinder what u use it for.
