Vintage sewing kit box house ~ wicker/straw-like sateen lining JAPAN
This offer is for a darling little vintage sewing box shaped like a house. I believe it is from the early 60's but I do know that it is marked on the bottom with a tag saying JAPAN. The roof is 7 1/2" across and the house at the widest is 5 1/2" and it stands 6 1/2" at it's highest. It is quite lightweight weighing only about 11 ounces. The material seems to be a wicker/straw type material. It is accented with burlap around roof area and rick rack around the sateen lining. The decorations are real buttons. Felt doors and windows, and cardboard thread spool. The base seems to be a painted pressed wood about 1/8" thick. I do not know if it originally had contents. But it does not currently. It is in pretty good condition with little areas here and there where the straw is worn or maybe it was just that way originally. ... moreThe handle feels like it has a plastic over it so it is in great condition. Please don’t buy one of these kits unless you know what you’re getting in to. We did not: We purchased this Farmhouse Kit used(yes. On Ebay) several years ago, with the grand plans of making a dollhouse for our daughter. The kit had been opened and the box had received considerable wear, but the Farmhouse had never been assembled. After receiving the kit however. And looking into the details of the construction, the whole project was a bit more daunting then we previously believed. It also needed a dedicated workspace, which at time was in short supply. We didn’t want to give up. So we just put it ... moreoff. Finally a friend. Who said he loved projects like this one, decided to undertake the project for us. He got as far as assembling a couple of the outer walls and then returned the kit to us. Where it has sat ever since. So if you are looking for an easy-to-assemble dollhouse. That won’t take too much of your time, this project is not for you. However. If you are into model building and don’t mind all the intricate details that a project like this entails, I’m sure you’ll be up for the challenge of this kit, and if the pictures on the box are any indication, the final product looks pretty good.
