Many architectural firms offered" stock housing" plans that could be purchased for use in constructing residences nationwide. Sears was the most popular purveyor of stock house designs, but Alladin& Harris, McHenry& Baker also provided designs during the 1920's and 1930's. Often these plans were published in elaborately illustrated catalogs and prospective homeowners could order a complete set of plans for their local builder. However, several firms offered complete kits that would be delivered(often in a railroad boxcar) to the buyer, who would then provide the foundation and the labor. Because of their widespread use, these house designs can still be found from coast to ... morecoast. The Stoddard house is based on a plan shown in the 1925 catalog of Harris. McHenry and Baker of Elmira, NY. Unlike many of their competitors who offered complete house kits to be delivered to the construction site, of Harris, McHenry and Baker offered house plans only. The colors are bright and crisp, ad the only scuffing is at the corners and is very minor. The instructions are complete and the parts are in stapled plastic bags. Auction is for new. Unstarted kit by Railroad Ave, Wickett's Lumber Co. Engine House" It is a resin craftsman kit with stripwood, Grandt Line windows and lots of finely detailed resin castings of board& batten walls. This is a very hard to find kit and I was quite excited to find it as it had the same look as some of the Central Pacific small engine houses that fit the layout I planned to build. Some of the resin castings have a slight warp to them. Which I am told is normal. I wrote the manufacturer, they sent me an easy solution to remove the warp(put them flat on a cookie sheet in your oven at a very low heat) I will include their instructions with the kit. This is a good sized structure with an interesting roof line and some additions to the engine house that increase the footprint. It will make a really nice looking structure ... morewhen completed. The instructions do not include any plans. So will have to use the photo as a guide and play around with the wall locations.
