Early 1900's Doctor Bag and Tools~Baby Delivery Kit~House call~OBGYN~Very Rare
You are bidding on a very rare antique Doctors Baby Delivery Bag/Kit with some tools and accessories. I am not sure of the exact date but am guessing this as probably 1920's but no later than the mid 1930's as the use of chloroform was on a rapid decline after that date. It may be considerably older than that i am not sure but I am no expert so this is an educated guess and I stand to be corrected if I am wrong and make no claim that I know exactly how old it really is.That said it is in very good vintage condition. It has a leather case which holds an enamel wear box containing the tools and accessories. The leather case is open at the bottom and fits over the enamel wear or porcelain box. The leather straps then go under the box and are buckled at the top to hold everything in place. I think the enamel wear box doubled as a sterilization ... morechamber for the doctor. There are numerous cloth bags which are marked for the various instruments and tools that the doctor would have used. There is also a canvass case which holds numerous bottles. This case is marked for each individual bottle and a few other tools. The kit is not complete. Only the three tools you see in the pic 6(Large forceps. Retractor and Chloroform mask) are present.The cloth bags are marked with different instrument names but these are empty. The canvass kit containing the bottles is missing the Razor, the nail cleaner, scissors and eye drop. There are 13 bottles in the kit.Three have plated screw tops with glass stoppers underneath(pic 10/11) and are marked Becton Dickinson& Co. on the base. Four are amber glass like the one in pic 11 and are marked on the base W.T. Co. The remaining six are clear glass with metal tops. Three of these are marked W.T. Co. U.S.A and the other three are unmarked. Both the Enamel case and the large forceps are marked Germany. I found no markings on the chloroform mask or retractor. PLEASE read the condition description.
