This sale is for a David White Company transit. It bears a serial number of 5402 which dates it to about 1926. This is in as-found. Uncleaned, unoiled, unrestored condition. I haven't tried moving or adjusting anything. The level part still has liquid in it. I can clearly see crud growing in the lens. The sighting section is about 12" long. Up for sale is a Very Nice David White Realist Universal 8114 Transit in its Original Hardshell case and Tripod. Transit is in very nice condition- all knobs work smoothly. Secures properly to Tripod even has original brass plum-bob. The transit weighs almost 8 pounds and it is machined from brass. The case is in good shape no names engraved in the plastic or florescent paint that you see on some tools it has some scuffs but is sound and latches all work properly. The metal Tripod is not bent or dented but paint is scratched it even has original leather strap to secure when folded at varying widths for height adjustment. Flat shipping rate on this item because it will ship in two separate boxes. If the buyer is not interested in the Tripod. Take a look at the chart and you'll see the serial number(109821) falls in between the 1941 and 1942 year bracket. It appears to be in good shape, clear optics. Hello and welcome to my auction listing. This item is a Vintage David White Model 3000 surveying transit in its original wooden box with leather strap. Inside the box you will fine the transit. The original owner's manual, string, and a plumb bob. All items have been meticulously cleaned. David White is known for its precision surveying instruments and a tradition of quality since the inception of the company in 1895 in Milwaukee. Wisconsin. According to the serial number used to access the year of manufacture, it is estimated to be manufactured in 1953. This fine vintage piece is over 50 years old. Despite its age, it is nice condition with the following notes I wish to disclose: There is some wear in the brass finish about the knobs. Base, and lens cap. The wood box appears to have been repaired at one time(see picture of lid with David ... moreWhite emblem) Otherwise. It is strong and shows now signs of a decrease in integrity to serve its function, but rather adds to the value of this vintage piece. There is some paint wear in some locations throughout. But overall the paint is in good condition. Please see photos of the item from the top down as there is one area on the top of the barrel and another on the frame below the eyepiece to the left and right. For the age of this piece, it is in great condition. Lastly. I know nothing about surveying equipment and transits. Therefore, I am unable to diagnose whether the following is user error sort of speak or an issue to disclose. When I look through the eyepiece, it is blurry. When I face the transit toward a light, I can detect light but cannot see any images. There does not appear to be any jagged edges or lines in the lenses which would, to me, indicate a cracked lens. I also inspected the lenses and do not see any issues other than blurriness. They may just need to be cleaned or there may be another issue with them I am unaware of. Overall. The Builder's Dumpy Level is in excellent overall condition for its age. The lens is very clean and allows the user to view objects either close or far away, unsure of the exact range, but when tested an object with 6" lettering was seen clearly and legible. The levels are also accurate. The tripod is in good overall condition, but one of the bolts for the leg does not tighten on the stand. The stand measures 60" in max. height. Includes everything that you see in the pictures. The strap that wraps around the case is broken, the remaining portion of what is left can be seen on the sides. For auction I have a Vintage US ARMY SIGNAL CORP. THEODOLITE TRANSIT INSTRUMENT by DAVID WHITE Co. Whil I think this transit is from the 1940's. I really don't know for sure. I tried to Google this transit with the information on the tag(see photo) U.S.Army Single Corp' Theodolit Order No. 3275 PH-52, Serial No. 132, Order No. 3275 PH-52, manufactured by David White Co. out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but didn't have any luck. Your buying this transit for parts or restoration as it is missing the lens, but I think this is all. On my last photo I am showing you a red oxide stamp that can be found towards the top of this piece. To me it looks military and the bottom number is either 33 or 23. This piece is very heavy and measures measures at the cast metal base(unknown what kind of metal, magnet will not stick to it) 11" x ... more7 3/4" and is approx. 12 3/4" tall.
