Rare and very unique demonstration microscope by Voigtländer Braunschweig. Germany. Demonstration microscopes are portable microscopes intended to be used in class. The lecturer is to place a slide and focus it. And the microscope can be passed around the class with each student looking through it while an explanation is given. The objective of this microscope is signed Voigtländer, Braunschweig. It is an unusual hand held microscope which can be pointed at the sky or any light background and a specimen or slide held in the spring-loaded stage can be focused and viewed easily. It comes in a fitted stained pine case with two slides and has its original lacquer in excellent condition. The box is 22 cm ... morelong. Johann Friedrich Voigtländer produced microscopes already in 1756 in Vienna. The company Voigtländer became famous primarily for the production of cameras with high-quality optics. As well as glasses. in 1840 the first calculated portrait lens was developed by Peter Wilhelm Friedrich von Voigtländer in collaboration with the mathematician Josef Petzval(1807-1891) Simon Plößl(1794-1868) one of the most renowned microscope manufacturers of the first half of the 19th century, learned the optician craft from Johann Friedrich Voigtländer and worked with him from 1812 to 1823. The company moved from Vienna to Braunschweig in 1849 at the request of the wife of Peter Wilhelm Friedrich, who was born in Braunschweig. There, microscopes were produced from 1906 to 1926. An antique"Argus Nr. 606" Brass Microscope. 6 3/4" high, made in Germany and housed in its original wood box, 2 3/4" x 8 9/16" x 2 1/2" high, with original hook closures. There's a paper label inside the box with some information but I don't see any maker's mark on the Microscope. GERMANY" is impressed into the 2" diameter iron base. The top section can be adjusted up and down and can also be removed from the bottom section. Condition. In good condition overall. I didn't polish the brass but left it as found. The surface of the adjustable mirror is in good condition with some oxidation across the middle section that doesn't seem to interfere with reflecting light into the Microscope. The top and bottom glass lenses are in good condition with no scratches. There is an old short closed ... morecrack in the bottom section of the brass band above the section that holds the slide that can be seen in one of the side view photos of the Microscope(as the Microscope front faces to the right) This part doesn't hold the top section in place so it doesn't affect the use of the Microscope in any way. It came to our NY House(purchased in 1957) and remained there ever since. He and my Mom divorced in the 60s but the microscope remained at the house in which I still reside( time to move. Ya’ think? This is a high-quality and precise scientific research instrument, in good condition and perfect working order. The article has an enameled iron bird-claw foot with a nice shiny and even black finish. The top of the microscope is composed of different pieces made of golden brass and chromed metal. All of them are original and in excellent working order. The instrument has a three-lens revolving nosepiece and the brass some component parts are made of, such as the turret and the screws, keeps the original transparent lacquer. Without case. The turret and the lenses bear the engraved manufacturer’s name: Leitz Wetzlar. This instrument was made in Germany and comes in its original solid wooden case. With the microscopy comes a series of accessories, all of them original and in striking condition. The microscope is also well preserved: the brass only shows some signs of the trace of time and use that do not affect the metal but remain in the original protecting lacquer. The instrument works perfectly and provides a high-quality vision thanks to the three original lenses of the revolving nosepiece. Leitz Wetlzar was a company that started in 1869. When Ernst Leitz took over the Optical Institute founded by Karl Kellner in Wetzlar, Germany. From then on the company grew and became one of ... morethe most important microscopemanufacturers in the world, together with Zeiss Jenna. The firm was also famous for its great cameras, the renowned Leicas. Today the firm is still active under the name Leica Microsystems GmbH, manufacturing microscopes and optic material. This vintage CARL ZEISS microscope was manufactured around 1950 in Germany. This instrument is 11 1/2-inches high and sits on a round 6 1/4-inch base. It was designed to check the quality if lenses for eyeglasses/spectacles after manufacture. It comes equipped with a built-in. Working illumination system. The adjustment that controls the 8-inch horizontal plate is calibrated in millimeters. When viewing, the image has cross-hairs superimposed on a 0 to 180-degree semi-circular scale. With the light turned on, a circle of small green dots sits on top of the center of the cross-hairs, and a small illuminated circle appears with another scale from 0 to +25 and 0 to-25. The larger adjustment controls the focus and the illuminated circle setting. The smaller adjustment turns the circle scale on and off. Vintage Student Microscope. Made in Germany- Sold by N.J. Laboratory Supply Co. 235-239 Plane Street Newark. NJ- Set contains: Microscope. 4 and#5 Eyepieces, 2 glass slides and Wooden Box- Microscope and box has"Made in Germany" stamped on them. Items stamped Made in Germany are generally considered to be pre-WWII. since after the war they were marked either E. Germany or W. Germany) Although items manufactured during, and for a short time post-WWII might have been stamped simply"Germany" as well. That said. I believe this microscope to be vintage 1940's. Entire set is in very nice condition. I believe it was in my family since the 40's/50's.
