It has a built-in iris and a diffuser filter that can be engaged and disengaged with a lever. The light is emitted from a port aimed upward. There are two cables. One with a one-pin male connector and one with a three-pin male connector. The power source these plug into is not known. The unit doesn't come with a bulb. How the unit was tested: When the port behind the bulb is opened there's a clear view through the light source's optical path. Indicating that the unit would shine light clearly if it had a bulb. Binoculars are not in very good shape. Lenses are not broken but have a lot of scratches on them. The eyecups are chipped. Overall these binoculars show signs of wear consistent with battlefield use.The leather neckstrap looks original. The case may not be original to the binoculars. They have one stamping on one of the leather straps that a lot of people frown upon. It is clearly visible if you were looking at it in person. Part of that stamping are bird wings and WaA1 Inside and at the bottom of the case there are a couple of stampings. OF T2 inside of a circle, the number 2 is stamped nearby. The neckstrap is not original.

This lens is in good working order. The focusing helicoid has been re-greased recently. The optics are clean and show no signs of fungus or cleaning scratches but there are a couple of tiny specs of dust within the elements. The aperture blade movements are brisk and sharp. WWII ORIGINAL GERMAN DAK DESSERT CAMO STEREOSCOPE RANGEFINDER– CARL ZEISS- XTR.RARE DESCRIPTION: Offered to you is this original German WW2 stereoscope optical rangefinder made by Carl Zeiss. This is an extremely rare Rommel’s DAK(Deutsches Afrika Korps) Battle used piece. It is painted in dessert camo color on top of the standard Wehrmacht feldgrau camo color. Optics are clear with all the range finding graphics clearly visible. This type of rangefinders were used primarily in large open areas where there are no comparative markers to use to determine the range of a far placed object. They were very valuable in the dessert and were so precise that were employed for anti aircraft purposes against fast moving targets. The rangefinder has two different optical filters, selected by turning at both ends, as well as a number of fine tuning settings ... morefor more precise viewing. Leather padded on both ends for protection against incidental drops. Suspension loops for attaching a canvas carrying sling. The rubber visor mask is in good condition for its age, still soft and flexible with minor cracks along the edges. For condition see photos. Most similar rangefinders that have surfaced over the years are either with Kriegsmarine color and markings or are some surplus items that have never been issued. This is an extremely rare DAK piece that has been actually used during WWII and has seen a lot of important historical moments. Much sought after piece, truly a collector’s item.
