PLEASE READ! This is a Jacobs 58B headstock chuck. However. It has been altered to fit on a smaller lathe spindle. Someone has welded in an insert with 1" x 8 tpi threads and then ground the end. This will not fit on lathes with a 1 1/2" spindle. I tried it out on a lathe I have with a 1"8 spindle and the chuck definitely wobbles with runout. This is a nice vintage Headstock Gear Guard with Brass Manufacturers Plates from a Vintage 9" South Bend Workshop Metal Lathe with a 9" swing and 3 foot Bed. It is Serial#55177 Catalog No. 405-Y. Made by South Bend Engine Lathes In South Bend Indiana USA. The previous owner told me it was from 1937 but I don't have verification of that. It comes as pictured- some wear and tear but in good working condition. The original Brass plates are intact. The outside plate reads Size of Lathe 9" 3 Ft. Bed Catalog No. 405-Y. The plate on the edge says South Bend Trade Mark Engine Lathes 9 Workshop South Bend Indiana and has the thread and gear chart. This is in very good condition for its age. Local pick-up available. South Bend Lathe Milling Attachment with riser? Watchmaker, Gunsmiths, Jewellers
Up for auction with no reserve and a low starting bid. This is a South Bend Lathe Milling Attachment. It is in remarkable condition. The ways and gibs look fantastic. There is a block that has been mounted to the bottom of this unit. I don't know why this was done. But I can guess at a couple reasons. Either it was put there to adapt to a Craftsman or an Atlas Lathe. Or it was added as a riser to allow the user more height to use on a taller machine then intended. The center hole out the bottom of the adaptor measures 1.251Ø. So it should fit a Craftsman or Atlas lathe also. The riser really looks like it was made well. It has surface ground faces and a locator machined to fit the casting. Ships in a medium flat rate box by PRIORITY MAIL.

But it looks like the casting is marked with“130 N1” It does not have any damage, no repairs and no personal ID marks are on it. Rust is not an issue. All the hardware looks original. Complete lever type collet closer for 5C collets. This came off a 14" Logan but. Should be adaptable to just about any lathe with a 1 3/8" spindle bore. I have both the 1 3/4" x 20 TPI spindle adapter for most 11 and 12" machines and a 2 1/32" that's what the 14" lathe spindle tail end mics at) x 20 TPI adapter. The 27" long tube is for a 14" Logan but, making a new tube is an easy lathe project. The tube could also be sectioned and welded. The center of the tube has been turned down, not leaving enough meat to just cut and re-thread the collet end. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Has double tumbler gear box and the better cam operated apron clutch. Spindle is 2 1/4"8tpi and 1 3/8" through hole. Motor is 220volt 3 phase and comes with electronics, all you need is power. The taper attachment has a broken locking lever, otherwise its all there. Thread dial is included. Lots of tooling included also. A Rohm Supra chuck and a Grand live center. A South Bend brand 5" 3-jaw reversible chuck with backing plate. A 7" face plate and a 6" 3-jaw(2piece! Buck chuck no back plate.
