George Frick(1826-1895) was an engineering genius. Who began building steam engines for farm use in the early 1850s, in a shop on Antietam Creek in Pennsylvania. As this official company history states, George Frick heard the guns at the battles of Antietam and Gettysburg, saw the pony express superseded by the trans-continental railroad, supplied machines which helped open the Great West, and ushered in the era of refrigeration. When he died in 1892, Frick equipment was in use from Coast to Coast. The history of the Company he founded thus parallels the story of America. And it’s all here. With nearly 200 black and white drawings, photos, and illustrations. This fabulous book is literally a museum of the Frick Company, and the great equipment it manufactured. There is a photo of the town of Frick, Switzerland, the ancestral home of the Frick family. There are also photos of the Frick home in Quincy, Penn. which, according to the caption, was later occupied by other important companies: Landis Tool Co. Landis Machine Co. and the Good Lumber Co. Timber King 1400 Sawmill
This auction is for a Timber king 1400 sawmill. This is an excellent mill that has seen little use. The mill has less than 50 hours of use and has had upgrades installed. Mill includes a 2500 lb wench for loading logs and a log turner and a tool box was added to the rear for storage of tools and the wench operator. New guide bearings were installed recently and the unit is still under warranty with the manufacturer. I am not sure that the warranty is transferable I will have to check with the manufacturer. Mill is equipped to cut logs up to 34" the largest that has been loaded was 30" and the mill cut that just fine. Table is twenty feet and can cut twenty feet lengths. Vintage Wood Mold Homestake Gold Mine Spearfish Sawmill South Dakota Crock Top? We just got back from a wonderful vacation out to Wyoming and South Dakota. Stayed at a fabulous B&B in South Dakota- made even more heaven by the fact that they also had an antique store on the property. I shopped in several other locations in both states and brought home some great primitives. Advertising, pottery, and all in all interesting finds. Before I left, I went to a new farm auction, and an estate auction- so I have a BUNCH of new items this week- I’ll be posting every day, so be sure to check back! Here's a really neat old piece that I picked up at the Spearfish antique mall. I'm calling it vintage in my title. But it very well may be old enough to be antique. The label on it that had the price tag- I left it on the bottom and am showing ... moreit in one of my close ups. It reads, Homestake Mine Mold, along with the number of the booth. Now, the top of the piece has impressed into the wood, 8" Gate, Planning Mill Blower, Spearfish Sawmill, 2.D.3. There's also a number 8 that is large impressed into the underside where the label is, along with a smaller number 1, and a smaller number 8 below the one. That's pretty much all I know about it! When I looked up Spearfish Sawmill, I found several active listings on the internet. The Homestake Gold Mine was located in Lead SD and was known as the largest and deepest gold mine in North American until its closing in 2002. The Homestake desposit was discovered in 1876 during the Black Hills gold rush. Now, what the Spearfish Sawmill's relation to the mine was- I don't know, but it certainly appears that this piece was made in Spearfish. Even if you have no mining interest, I think it's just a cool old industrial piece. I thought a perfect way to display it would be to use it as a crock top- perfect in size, I think, at 8 1/4" diameter on the top, the 1 1/4" thick sides graduate in as they go down making the inside bottom 7 1/4" diameter. I decided to build a new building and have now decided to buy a new Frick Timber Tiger mill also. The carriage is an original steel 20 foot with 7 head blocks and wood track with a quick recede feed. It has 2 blades of 52" 56" The husk is original and is wood. The mandrel is 10ft and I have a few pulleys for it. On3--On30 White Pine Log Loads Large group 80+ Real logs Sawmill logs 3-8" long
Here is a group of White Pine logs that would work on a busy On3 or On30 logging railroad layout. There are a lot of logs included so I took individual photo's of each group and will describe them below. They should appear in order from largest to smallest.for the most part these are dry logs although a few have a drip of sap on the ends yet. Not unusual.I let them sit in a box but if left out to sit a while they'll dry out quickly and completely. I usually take something like this when they dry out and spray with hairspray or coat in shellac or varnish to hold them all together and maintain the cool look to them. So. Here is what's included. 10 logs 8" long for your disconnect cars. 1" to 1 1/2" in scale terms 4 ft to 6' diameter logs! 10 logs 7" long. 3/4" to 1 1/2" in diameter, or in scale ... moreterms 3' to 6' in diameter. 10 logs 6" long. 5/8" to 1 1/4" in diameter, or 2'6" to 5' in On30 scale diameter. 12 logs 5" long. 1/2" to 1 3/8" in diameter, or 2' to 5 1/2' in diameter-30 logs 4" long. 1/4" to 1" in diameter, or 1' by 4' in scale diameter. small misc pile of 3" long firewood logs 1/4" to 3/4" This entire group just fits inside a medium Priority flat rate box. And with the weight flat rate Priority is the only way to go. I will make sure the box is full though, I always try to throw in some extra's! The white pine makes for great looking scale logs, I hope you think so also.if there is anything in particular you're looking for, let me know and I'll see if I have it. Blades were left over at a sawmill. They sold the saw but had these blades ready to replace the one on it. Apparently all four blades have brand new tips on them. As far as I can tell all the blades and tips are all brand new. Blades are 24" wide by approx 1/8 thick. Hole in center is just shy of 5" at widest part. 25 notches around the interior hole. 3 Point Hitch PTO Driven Portable Sawmill
This a 3 pt. hitch. PTO( 540 RPM) driven sawmill. You can run the mill with other power sources if you like.The mill was manufactured near Scottsburg, Indiana in the 1970's and early 80's. New teeth, easy to install. 36" blade, 14" cut. It needs attention in some areas. A few of the small gears on the table needs replaced, the drive belt is drying out, and the bolwer housing for the sawdust blower needs some sheet metal work. The saw operates fine. It's quite, hydrulics work as they should. It has all new roller chains on all chain driven parts. It appears that all the gears, belts, bolts, chains and anything else on it, is availble at Grainger or McMaster Carr. I have not seenanything on it that is custom made. As far as I can tell anyway.
