I recently bought a really nice old toolbox at a local estate auction. I wanted the toolbox for myself but had to pay a lot more than i wanted to because it was full of vintage machinists tools. Hoping i can recoup some of what i paid by selling the tools. Judging by some pay stubs and other paperwork in the toolbox these were used in the late 1960's thru the mid 1990's by the tools owners and he worked at Detroit Diesel Allisons in Speedway Indiana. Up for bid is a vintage Mitutoyo model number 505-637-50 shock proof 9" inch dial caliper With Case& Original Certificate of Calibration with H. Yanagisawa-Chief Inspector. They mearsure approximately 9" long. with 1 1/2" o.d. dial face. They are in very good condtion with aveage wear however there is what appears to be a burn mark in the crystal at the"20" mark but it does not go all the way thru the crystal. Mitutoyo 8 inch digital caliper with a 6" Brown and Sharpe Dial Caliper
You are looking at a 8 inch Mitutoyo Digital Caliper with a Brown and Sharpe 6 inch Dial Caliper. The Mitutoyo works great but has a spot on the LCD from a hot metal chip. You can see from the pics that it doesn't look too bad. It doesn't bother me any as I use it. But I am disclosing this too describe accurately as possible. The brown and sharpe needs some work. The dial functions but has a rough feel as the needle rotates. I haven't gotten around to repairing but figured I'd add these to the mitutoyo's. I have no cases for these. Posted with

Vintage Starrett Dial Calipers No. 120 with Case Machinist Tool
This Vintage Starrett Dial Calipers No. 120 with Case Machinist Tool has been gently restored. What does gently restored mean? The overall objective is to preserve as much as the old tool or item with its lifetime patina as possible without the use of power tools. Metal is typically initially cleaned using mineral oil. Or a weak solution of washing soda and water and if necessary brief electrolysis to remove and or convert rust to black oxide. Whichever method is best, a scotch brite plastic cleaning pad is used with water so the underlying metal is not damaged. A heat gun is immediately used to blow dry and eliminate moisture which is followed by a hand rubbed coat of mineral oil. After letting the oil“soak in” for a day or so, the item is wiped cleaned then hand rub in bees wax to seal it. A weak solution of oil soap and water is used to ... moreremove grime, old oils and dirt from wood which is air or blowed dry with a heat gun. This is followed by a hand rub of“feed and wax" If the situation requires it, a soft brass bristle brush or“0000” steel wool is ocassionaly used. This is a lot three(3) vintage calipers and dividers including Craftsman spring-type 6” outside and 4” inside calipers. And Union Tool 5” Spring-Type dividers. They are older– they came from the inventory of a toolmaker who started in the business in the early 1940s. The calipers have the name of a previous owner lightly etched on the frame. But all pieces in super working condition. This is a nice addition to your metalworking tool box. The winning bidder will pay shipping and handling.
