Here's another neat premium from the golden age of radio- the 1939 TOM MIX POSTAL TELEGRAPH SIGNAL SET IN ORIGINAL MAILER BOX. This Ralston premium has a postmark date of July 3. 1939. The box is 7 5/8" wide, 5 1/8" tall and 1" deep. The end flaps of the box are missing. The telegraph key pad itself is in great condition, and the clicker key still clicks nicely. These were sent to schools as teaching aids. This particular one went to Florida. It's a thick 6" mailing tube containing a filmstrip for a slide-type projector and a 10-page teacher's aid booklet. The fair was scheduled only to run until November 12, 1933, but it was so successful that it was opened again to run from May 26 to October 31, 1934 This is an 18 picture“fold out” mailer in two colors. Green and off white. It was purchased by my mother on either Oct. 13, 14, or 15th, 1933. She was 21 years old at the time, still in Teachers College. In Oct. of 1933. My mom and at least one other teacher went to the fair! She and her“gal pals” took several“road trips” both long and short during the years from 1933- 1936. This is a once in a lifetime find. I purchased these items at an estate sale in North Royalton Ohio in the fall of 2012. This auction is for the original"Epic of the 101st Airborne. Also included is the original mailer that the book came in which is post marked July 8. 1946 and addressed to the vet, John F. Vozobule, 501st vet. His serial No. is 35525073. Also comes with the original letter that came with the book from the 101st Airborne Association and also a original photo in the original period frame of John Vozobule. In the picture, you can clearly see the 101st patch which appears on his shirt w/ corporals patches. John enlisted in the U.S. Army on 12/08/42. He was born in May 1920 and died in Feb. 2009. Set on an island in the where the American Army under General Cummings is trying to drive out the Japanese. The Naked and the Dead focuses on a single reconnaissance. The novel is split between alternating chapters depicting ongoing action on the island and retrospective chapters focusing on a particular character's personality and past. The Naked and the Dead contains several combat scenes and a great deal of description of Army protocol. As well as detailed descriptions of the many trials and agonies of the enlisted man. The novel ... moredeals with the difficulties of the campaign, the danger posed by the Japanese, the conflict between officers and regulars, each man's own internal conflicts and fears, and the aggression between squad members. Everyone, from the General down, has character flaws, and there are few depictions of lasting happy family life or of good male-female relations. The men suffer physical hardship and even casualties, but there is little mourning or kindness. There is no mercy shown to the Japanese. 1941 ATLANTIC CITY NEW JERSEY "Senator" Hotel brochure/mailer, letter, 4-pieces
Offering for sale: A four-piece grouping of paper items that were all part of a direct mail mailer sent out to potential attendees of a convention at the Hotel Senator in Atlantic City in 1941. The convention being promoted was for the 17th Annual Convention of the National Monarch Club. All four pieces were sent together and the four items in this lot are: OUTSIDE MAILER- This is a large sheet- approximately 17 by 22 inches that's folded in half to create a four-page"folder" with each page being approximately 8-1/2 by 11 inches. This is printed in full color on both sides. The"cover" of the four-panel folder features an introductory letter with the"Senator" logo at the top. The letter details the upcoming convention and is signed by H. Herbert Hirzel. Executive Secretary-Treasurer. The back side of the folder ... moreis designed in two halves so it could be folded again and serve as a self-mailer. One of those halves shows the hotel building and has a place for the address. This also has a canceled stamp and was sealed on two sides with a circular yellow sticker(see photo) The back half of that side shows an illustrated map of downtown Atlantic City and has key points of interest marked on it. The inside spread features a half dozen color photos of the hotel, including individual rooms, meals, lobby, and views. This was probably a stock"flyer" folder" that had an individualized"letter" added to it. The letter is dated"May 2, 1941" This folder, when sealed, contained three more items(the following) RETURN POST CARD- This was a pre-posted First Class reservation post card addressed to the Hotel with information on the flip side to be filled out for booking. MAIL-IN EARLY RESERVATION FORM- One sheet printed on one side. I'd on the top as a reservation for The National Monarch Convention.
