Japanese Kimono Stencil, 19th century, design 13" x 9 1/2", overall 16" x 12
One of the traditional methods of Japanese textile dyeing is done with paper stencils that are themselves works of art. Katagami is the Japanese art of making paper stencils for kimono printing. Multiple layers of thin paper are bonded with a glue extracted from persimmon. Which makes a strong flexible brown colored paper. The paper is cut with a combination of knives and punches. The designs can be extremely intricate. And consequently fragile. Large open areas are held together with fine silk threads as in this stencil. The printing is done with a resist dyeing technique. Rice paste is passed through the stencil onto the fabric. When the fabric is dyed. The color does not adhere to the areas treated with rice paste. By multiple alignments of the stencil. Large areas can be patterned- this one will form vertical stripes of bamboo overlaid ... morewith flowers and leaves. The stencil is not generally used for more than one kimono. Though multiple stencils can be cut at the same time. T his stencil is preserved by pressure mounting only between two sheets of acrylic glazing which is rimmed with an eighth inch silver metal band. The stencil appears to be in perfect condition and has never been removed from its mount while in my possession. SHEET SIZE IS ABOUT 16" x 13" Outside of MOUNT is 18" x 14" Please see pictures. Up for auction is an amazing custom made Poodle Skirt. This was made by my mother for my daughter's school program and being a child of the 50's she wanted it done right. So no cheap felt or quick stitches. This skirt was made to draw attention and to last a long time. The skirt is made of a lightweight cotton denim for durability and is a medium gray color. The white poodle was layered with white cotton and a fleece like material to make his fur stand out and curl to give it a 3D look and feel. He has a rhinestone collar and a blue crystal eye. A gold leash leads from his collar all the way up to the waist. On the other size we decided to do something a little different. We made records using glittery gold and black satin. We wanted them to look old and a little worn so we recycled some vintage material and it turned out really well. ... moreOver the records we used some Elvis Presley material that we cut him out of and added a few more rhinestones over his guitar. Then we used sparkly silver material to cut out music notes and placed them throughout the skirt. Then everything was serged which gave everything a nice finished look and it also will keep all edges from fraying. The waist is elastic with a side zipper and button. It measures 23 inches and stretches up to 26" The length is 26 1/2 inches. I'm also including the layered petticoat which isn't handmade. We bought it for the poodle skirt. I will be honest I don't know alot about grading comics or really anything related to their value. I have just collected them because I love Star Wars. Since I purchased these they have never been opened. Read, or exposed to outdoor elements. They also come from a pet and smoke-free home. Yes there are a few issues missing from this line up so make sure you read carefully before assuming this includes all 1-15 issues. I was working on getting the ones left I don't have but I never got around to it. To have a complete set of issues#1- 15 you will still need to purchase#3,4 and#8 just to clarify. Vintage Claus Extra Large Long Scissors Sheers Model 3312 USA Made Description This is a pair of large long Claus Scissors. They measure slightly over 12 1/2" long from the tip of the cutting blades to edge of the handle. The blades alone measure approximately 8" long. The handle is marked on the area above the bolt and below the grips as follows: Claus(in script lettering) U.S. Fremont# 3312. The scissors weigh approximately 1 pound 2 ounces. They are a heavy metal. But I am not certain as to what type. It appears that the handles were originally painted black, but mush of that has flaked off. They will need a sharpening.
