This is a really nice vintage slide rule with case and paper instructions. The slide rule is a nice original white color. Even though our camera shows some shading and makes it look a bit darker than it actually is. It is by Sterling and made in the USA. It comes with the original case and also with paper instructions that are titled"How to Use your Pickett Slide Rule. This is a nice one, in nice condition, ready for use or to add to your collection.

I think I have finally found a scan setting that most accurately represents the quality and color of the actual slide. I hope you will agree. If you purchase a slide and do not agree. Please contact me to resolve the issue. The scan. Itself, is a low resolution 150 dpi, and the scanner automatically crops the edges of the image slightly(thus. The actual image is larger) So the actual image is larger than seen. Before scanning. I quickly dust the slides, which often does not remove all of the dust from surface of the film. In other instances. The dust is intrinsic to the image itself. I do not have the time to examine each slide carefully to discern the source of these imperfections. 1909 "Indian Pump Drill" Early Tool of Iroquois & Pueblo Indians Lantern Slide
This is a photographic glass magic lantern slide. Black and white, labeled, Indian'Pump Drill. American Museum of Natural History, New York. 1909. Perhaps one of man's earliest manufacturing methods was the drilling of holes. Primitive objects of bone(fish and mammal) ivory, wood, stone, and pottery have been discovered in Native American mounds(and other burial sites) caves, and shell heaps. Pump drill" This type of drill has a shaft which passes through a disc of stone, wood or pottery and a crosspiece through which the shaft runs. To the ends of the crosspiece is attached a leather string or thong, There is enough"play" in the string or thong to allow it to cross the top of the shaft and permit the crosspiece to reach close to the disc. The disc is turned to wind the string about the shaft thus raising the crosspiece. ... moreBy pressing down on the crosspiece several time the shaft is made to turn. The disc's purpose is to make the shaft rewind the string. This method allows the pump drill to have even greater speeds than the strap drill or bow drill. Also, one hand is left free to hold the object being drilled. The pump drill was used by the Iroquois and Pueblo Indians. It is still used today in the process of creating works of art! Lantern slides are one of the best untapped resources of photographs there are. Many of these slides are one-of-a-kind because they were often not mass produced or the ones that were have been destroyed or discarded by now. Slide is 3 1/4" x 4" is in very good condition, and can be viewed by projecting, holding it to the light, or placing it on a light box. This slide can be made into a photograph or poster.
