This is a wonderful collection of unused/ unmounted Chinese hand embroidered motifs still on their original tissue paper- as purchased probably in the early 1900's. They have hardly seen the light of day& are fresh. Vibrant& beautifully worked- all in shades of blue, coral& ivory. They are lightly stuck to the tissue& would easily be removed for a project- all the edges are properly finished so no fraying would occur. The disaster of the British Expeditionary Force defeated and evacuated at Dunkirk left England standing alone. Little did anyone know that by the end of 1941. More than a year away, both the USSR and the USA would have joined the war. In this interim period Britain, an island nation, made plans to combat Hitler and his Allies in the World Arena. This included Covert Operations and the fascinating inventions and adaptations to aid in these clandestine ventures. A special Office of MI5 was established headed by the legendary Spy Master Christopher Layton-Hutton where"gadgets" ... morefor espionage and escape were developed. These included the"compass in heel or button" and the renowned"Silk" maps for concealment in clothing. Etc; available for viewing in a permanent exhibition at Dover Castle Museum in Kent, England. This is a very attractive floretine toleware hinged tissue holder. It was made in Italy. The front is decorated with a circle of lovely cherubs. It measures 5 3/4" square and 5 3/4" tall. It is in excellent condition except for some minor paint loss around the bottom edge and some other minor defects( see pictures) I have one and I touched it up with gold gilt paint from the craft store. The first item is a genuine 1937 george.v and queen mary silver jubilee cup by wood and sons ltd burslem with borough of newcastle under lyme markings underneath. It has a small blemish near the right flag and some light crazing due to age. The second item is a very rare coronation 1937 tissue marked in each corner with british flags and four small holes near the centre. The last item is a brass embossed Queen elizabeth regina june 1953 plaque that has a hook on the back for hanging. It has a lot of wear due to being over polished. Ith measures 14 cms in diameter. The cup measures 11 cms tall and the tissue 32 cms square. I accept paypal and will post as soon as monies have cleared.
