This is a old double wheel pulley we found at an estate sale. First double wheel pulley we have ever found like it. Just the wood part measures about 4+1/2 inches long and 3+1/8 inches wide. It measures 3+1/4 inches across the face or the side showing the wheels. Each gap is 5/8 inches wide but it will take a 1/2 inch or smaller rope. The wheels are brass or bronze. The rest of the hardware is stainless steel. It appears that the center pin plates are old Chinese coins? See pics! It has a lot of wear and tear. The wood is worn and weathered and the stainless steel is covered with varnish and it is tarnished. It would be a great addition to a collection of maritime items. This is a used double pulley we found at an estate sale. Just the wood part measures about 3+1/2 inches long and 2+3/8 inches wide. It measures 2+3/4 inches across the face or the side showing the wheels. The gaps are 5/8 inches wide but it will take a 1/2 inch or smaller rope. The wheels are brass or bronze. The rest of the hardware is stainless steel. The center pin plates are marked Japan. It has a lot of wear and tear. The wood is worn and weathered and the stainless steel is covered with varnish and it is tarnished. It would be a great addition to a collection of maritime items. Old sailing ship wrought iron block with iron ring and double wooden pulleys. Probably lignum vitae. Measures 5 3/4 inches inches top to bottom. The iron ring measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter. The wood pulleys measure 2 inches in diameter. Shows wear consistent with age and use, with an age check in one of the wooden pulleys. Probably dates to the 19th century. Middletown was New England's largest inland port, and it was in that year thecompany that would become Wilcox, Crittenden& Co. Inc. was established. According to thecentennial history of the company, it was in Ben Butler's sail loft in Middletown that EldridgePenfield first conceived of developing a metal grommet(later to be called the sail eyeletgrommet) to replace the rope grommets that were currently being used by sailmakers.
