The slot measures 5" long and about 1 1/4" wide. The spring works great. The letters are nice and crisp. I do not see any cracks. Chips or breaks on the piece. 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Up for bids is a vintage leather US Mail Carrier satchel. These are getting extremely hard to find in good condition. Dated 1964 and made by Merit Leather. This mail pouch has no holes in the harness grade leather. Although there is one small(about an inch) tear onthe corner of the flap and some“age checking” in places on the outside of the bag(see pictures) The stitching is strong and it is reinforced with copper rivets(which show a nice patina) Inside it is clean and has a leather divider in the middle of the bag. The flap includes a buckle and strap closure. Which is a feature found on few of the bags I have seen. Includes vintage leather shoulder strap.
