The blade is about 10 1/2" long, 1 5/16" wide at the center, and this weighs 1 lb 1 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. This in decent shape and was lightly cleaned. There is some overall light patina but this was never a thing of beauty to start with. I'm guessing that this would have been fitted to wooden handles but who ever made this ever got that far. But that is easy enough or just wrap them with some leather and go to work. I do not think this was a drawknife blade as there is no steel on the blade, at least that I can see. In turn, Neanderthals were named after"Neander Valley" where the first Neanderthal remains were found. The term Neanderthal Man was coined in 1863 by Anglo-Irish geologist William King. From the period called"Mousterian" 150 000- 40 000 b.c. tools made of stone. Settlement sites and some parts of human skulls were found. Evidence for hunters and collectors in this period was found in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and other parts of Germany. Neanderthals are thought to have used tools of the Mousterian class. I attempt to be as accurate as possible. But odd surfaces can prove difficult sometimes as I lack a pair of calipers. I do not take apart or clean anything after listing an item. It is up to the new owner to clean silver and other metals. I am happy to ship overseas. But be aware of your country's customs laws. I am not sure if it is sterling or coin silver as I could not find any markings. It is not plated. It was likely made for a wealthy family and possibly intended for a child.
