Early 1970s Grundig Top-Boy 500 AM/SW/FM 3 Band Portable Radio AC/DC W/Cord Exceptional This is an Top Boy 500 3 band AC/DC portable radio by Grundig that's truly exceptional in sound. Operation, and condition. It has a wood-grain front cover, over the speaker, and features still shining chromed plastic trim, that contrasts against black. It's controlled with a rotary tuner on the front, and there's a sliding volume control, as well as 4 push buttons for on/off and to select AM, Short wave, and FM, on the top. A fully extending lift up antenna is stored on the top of the handle, is in great shape without any dings, is tight and stands on it's own. It's powered by 4 C cell batteries, or 120v ac with the permanently installed power cord, that gets stored in a space in the base. There's a sliding switch on the rear used ... moreto select power source. I've tested it both ways and the power is flawless. The label says Grundig Top-Boy 500 U and I believe it was produced in 1972. The bands are: AM 1600-510 SW 16-5.9 FM 108-88 Sound is exceptional. And I could tune in many more stations across all 3 bands than I've typically gotten with other sets in my rural area. The finish is really in great shape with very minor scratches, and none of the hazing or delamination typical of this plastic of this era.
