Beautiful Japanese Satsuma Vase possibly dating back from 1868-1926
You are bidding on a beautiful hand painted Satsuma Vase. The mark on the bottom resembles the Kazan mark from the Meiji period(1868-1912) The mark is also similar to the mark that has been attributed to the Taisho period(1912-1926) The circle with cross is the Shimazu family mon(crest) and appears on many Satsuma pieces. The Shimazu clan ruled the Satsuma province during the time period that most of the classic Satsuma pieces were made. It measures 5.5 inches tall. The bottles are kept in a small carved wooden box. Clad in a damascato cloth. The box has been restored because. As it's clear from the pictures, the glass has been replaced and a cord has been put around it, which seems to be more recent. One bottle is without liquid and with a marked and slightly broken neck; a second bottle has a ruined ceralacca seal(see pictures) It is an absolute rarity.
