1/2" NPT Brooks sight glass & check valve combo
This is a Brooks sight glass and check valve combo with 1/2" female NPT threads. It was made in the USA at a time when American engineering products were solidly made for quality and not in a race to the bottom for the lowest price. I think the body and the check valve flapper are made of a stainless steel alloy because the flapper and body do not rust. This sight glass/check valve has some useful adaptations. The flapper has a threaded hole in it whereby you may add or remove a brass or stainless steel screw/nut/washers so as to increase or decrease the flow rate through the sight glass. Examples would be if you wanted to increase/decrease the dwell rate in a heat exchanger or condenser. Another advantage is that it has a valved 3/8" NPT port in the top of the valve. Examples of use would be to draw off a sample of beer/bio-diesel ... moreor what-have-you or bleed off some air. I had it going to an automatic filler/expansion/contraction device on a test bed(see photo) I built to measure the performance of PVC panels. DC pumps etc. The valve will be included in the package but I'll remove it for shipping. If you don't need the valve you can replace it with a 3/8" NPT brass or stainless steel plug. The specifications on the Brooks unit are max 600 PSIG(PSI gauge pressure) at a max temperature of 200 degrees F. The overall measurements of the sight glass(without the 3/8" valve) are approximately 5" long x 5" wide x 3.25" high. The 3/8" valve is rated at 600 WOG. The 3/8" valve isn't the cheapy type with a plastic washer under the handle. It has a packing gland around the stem with a full flow stainless steel ball valve. Please keep in mind that any 3/8" valve you use with this unit must be able to cope with the pressures and temperatures that you put on the sight glass.
