VINTAGE JACKSON MODEL 648A DYNAMIC PLATE CONDUCTANCE TUBE TESTER- WORKS! NICE!
JACKSON TYPE 648A TUBE TESTER For your consideration. We are offering a vintage vacuum tube tester. Partially tested to be in working condition. I powered it up. It adjusts properly to my line voltage. I tested an old 6E5, seems fine, nice bright display and 110% reading. Then I tried a 76 triode and it came up 90% Then I tried a 12AU7 and it came up 5% but it tested great on my EICO 628. So I figure it needs restoration. All the buttons seem to be working good, some were sticking at fist, but got better as I kept working them. So it has good transformers. Good meter and good controls. Schematic on the bottom, inside. Clean chassis internals. Heck, the handle isn't even broken. OK, the case cover is rough. That's easy. Overall, restoration should be pretty inexpensive. Full service/restoration/calibration is recommended. Bonus! Comes ... morewith a Walsco No. 1960 Nuvistor adapter! This is a great tester. Easy to work on. I just acquired a TV7. Simpson 1000 Plate Conductance Tube Tester Calibrated and fully operational
Simpson 1000 Tube Tester. The tube tester is a Plate Conductance type of tube tester. Much better than your simple emissions testers. This tester is nearly identical to the Eico 666 tube tester. Other than the lever knobs are reversed. The question arises. Did Simpson design the tester and Eico copied it? Or did Eico design it and Simpson copy it? My guess is that Simpson designed the circuitry and Eico being a"Kit Operation" slightly modified it so they could sell kits of this excellent tube tester. As to how the tester setup is made. The first 9 lever knobs correspond to Tube Pin Numbers 1 through 9 they are labeled A-I the knob J the 10th one is the Grid Cap lever. K then sets the plate and screen grid voltages and L sets the shunt resistor value across the meter. You also will set the Bias and Range knobs as per needed for each ... moretube setup. Hickok calls these Bias and English knobs. The positions of the first 9 lever knobs is. 0 = ground. 1 = Filament, 2 = Screen Grid, 3 = plate, 4 = control grid bias, 5 = open no connection. Once you learn to operate this tube tester its reasonably easy to devise tests for tubes that aren't listed in any of the books or obsolete tube lists. I have been through this tester and done capacitor replacement. Resistor checking and calibration. I have had this tester for several years. I just have too many tube testers so this one needs to find a nice loving home. The case on the tube tester has some rough spots on the covering. Mostly on the corners. See all Photo's for case condition. The original Manual is included with the tube tester. Also included is a photocopied listing of Obsolete Tube settings. I also have the obsolete listings in PDF form and can be supplied after the auction is completed. Lastly along with the tube tester is also a"Home Brew" I think adapter box to test Compactron Tubes 9 and 12 pin. Up for auction is this Vintage Jackson Model 648R Dynamic Tube Tester in Case. This tester is in Good condition. I powered the tester on and everything seems to work as it should. I do not have any tubes to further test the machine but the meter works as it should. The tester is in Good cosmetic condition. All of the original buttons and knobs are present and intact on the tester. The lights on the tester work as they should as well. The tester comes in its original carrying case. The case does show signs of wearing from use over the years but is still intact. I took a lot of pictures to show you what you are receiving. RARE Vintage Simpson Model 1000 Plate Conductance Tube Tester. Made in the USA by Simpson Electric Company- Chicago. Illinois. Unit has some average wear from use and age- no damage. Unit powers on immediately and needle moves(see pics) All switches move as they should. Ground clamp cord has a few small crack to insulation on wire. One screw is missing on the bottom center. Unit has a small piece of tape that states"For test both these buttons down" Case is in nice condition, latches work perfectly. Unit has not been fully tested with tubes. Jackson Dynamic Plate Conductance Tube Tester. Model# 648. Works great and is very clean. Comes with factory operating instructions, and a copy of special tube test set up data manual. Also has a built in roll chart for tube test set up. Test sockets for 4, 5, 6, 7, pin early type tubes, 8 pin octal and loctal, and 7, 9 miniature and acorn tubes. Circuit tube has been tested, and capacitor replaced. All sockets and controls have been cleaned. This is a very high end tester. Great for testing amplifier, audio, hi/fi, stereo, radio and tv tubes. Shows a little age but is in overall very very good condition. Very useful tester with a lot of great features!
