Vintage HICKOK MODEL 546 Vacuum Radio Audio Tube Tester NO RESERVE!
Vintage test equipment in used condition. Has missing/wrong screws on face plate. There is some electrical tape around the power cord where it goes through the plaate. The carrying case shows signs of wear but overall very good condition. The paper reel is intact with no tears and the thumb dial works smoothly. Testing: Unit powers up. The line adjust works. Tested a few known good and bad tubes on the 9-pin socket only. It"passed" the good tubes and"failed" the bad ones so it appears to be somewhat functional. Instrument is not/has not been cailbrated so accuracy is not known. That is the extent of the testing that was done. No manuals. Test leads, socket adapters etc included. For sale here is a HICKOK Model 532 vacuum tube tester. The unit is working as you can see by the first picture im testing a known good 6L6. The unit does seem to be complete though unit will need a good cleaning as most tube testers do. I sprayed the insides down with deoxit to help with connectivity and electrical lubricant to help the switches turn smoothly. As with all tube testers it MUST be assumed that the unit needs a calibration. As you can see it is working powering on(pilot lamp needs replaced) etc. The roll chart is free and moving as well as the switches and knobs including a free moving meter. It applies individual voltages to all elements and sends a varying ac signal to the grid of the tube under test. Its actual amplification factor is measured as a Gm value on the meter. Its the only way to truly match tubes in amplifiers. This tester will handle: 4.5,6,7,8 pin large base tubes; 8 pin octals; 7& 9 pin miniatures; 8 pin micros; 8 pin in line tubes. It measures Gm. Shorts and leakage/gas. All the mechanical pieces work on the unit(every knob turns and the switches switch) I do not know what is wrong with the unit. The condition is clearly used. And you can see the case has some nicks and dings. One of the pins is missing from one of the hinges as well but it opens and closes easily. The latches work well. Up for auction is a Hickok 600A Micromho Mutual Conductance(Gm) Tube Tester. This tester is in working condition. But but is being sold“as is” since it has not been recently calibrated. The meter is in excellent condition; the knobs are tight and the chart roll bar works all the way to both ends. As can be seen from the panel face. There is little wear around the knobs which happens from frequent use. This unit operates using both a 83 tube rectifier and a 5Y3WGT tube rectifier. When these tubes were replaced. The tester’s readings did not change– indicating that the original tubes are still good(and will be included in this sale as extras) The tester still has all four rubber feet, original handle, and the original power cord(which has the usual cracking seen in cords from its era) The unit comes with a cap connector, spare fuse, and a copy ... moreof the original manual. Hickok Model 540 Tube Tester
This was my Uncles.A USN radioman during WW II and I believe he kept it as a souvenir but I'm not sure; I do know it has sat in a closet for 45 years at least and it is time for it to go. I'm old enough to remember tubes but have no clue whether or not this still works, but plugged in it seems to power up. Inside the case is okay, the exterior of the case is rough but structurally sound. There is some paperwork that appears to be a partial manual that goes with the unit. This unit is as-is with no warranty, so check the photos, bid accordingly there are no refunds; I want it gone, hopefully someone knows more about this than I do and could use it.

The case is in good condition with a few scuffmarks. Front panel looks very good and has only a few scratches. The only flaw I am aware of is that it cannot power the heaters of any 12.6V tubes, like 12ax7's etc. This unit does test 6.3v tubes and I use it regularly to test 6l6's, el34's, and other common octal power pentode's. If you look at the last picture. You will see a switch that I think is the culprit of why the 12.6V heater circuit is not working. Maybe you have one: I think this price is fair. This is a great estate find from upstate NY. It is a Hickok model 600A tube tester. It has the instruction manual and a roll chart. I don't have any tubes to test nor do I know anything about tube testers. I cannot verify the working condition of this tester because of my lack of knowledge. I do know that the light(as seen in the photo) does turn on although it does flicker very faintly. The chord is a little stiff and there are a couple rips in the rubber towards the plug. It measures 17" wide. 11" deep and 8" tall and is in a hard case that snaps closed. There is some wear to the red case, such as spots where the bare wood is showing through and one of the metal feet has pushed through the wood case. I purchased this beautifull unit about 12 years ago in a Ham Fest here in Florida. Up for sale here is this vintage Hickok 600A tube tester. I picked up this tester from an estate many years ago. And it has been sitting on a box in my basement since then. I plugged it in and two light bulbs on the front lit up very faintly, but I tried to test a tube and got nothing. The bulbs stopped lighting up after that. I would assume that this needs recalibration at minimum, and possibly more than that. The big sprague grey thing on the back(resistor? appears to be cracked. The paper roll scrolls smoothly and reads great. Cord is fine. I have not cleaned, repaired, tested, or worked on this in any way. This tester has no case unfortunately. Hickok 533A Tube Tester. This is an exceptionally clean tester that shows only minimal signs of use. There are a few scuffs on the case. But it otherwise looks and functions fine. The face is nice and bright and also looks very good. I see a few splotches of discoloration but nothing that stands out. The tester works great. As you can see from the images it calibrates to line voltage. It addition, I am showing it testing a 12AX7. the test results are commensurate with my calibrated Hickok 539C tester. Up for bid is a Hickok built KS-15750-L1 tube tester. This machine is similar to the Hickok 539-c and was built for the Western Electric Company by Hickok and includes testing data for Western Electric tubes such as the 300B etc. both on the roll chart and in the supplementary tube data manual. Included in this sale are the following: The tester. A grid cap lead, a larger plate cap connector so you can build a lead that will allow you to check tubes such as an 811A without holding the grid cap lead to the plate cap(see picture) a copy of the operations manual and a copy of the Obsolete Supplementary Test Data Manual, and the Daven 4416B Self Bias Decade Resistor. In my opinion, the condition of this unit is very good both cosmetically and functionally. The cabinet is clean inside and out as is the tester itself. The face of the tester has ... moresome light scratching and the repainted cabinet has some scratches also(see pictures) All meters, switches and pots work well-roll chart does too. The only fault I could find with any of this is that the far left filament switch is a little stiff in a couple of positions, but I think that this is more from lack of use than anything. I deoxed it and lubed it and that helped. I tested tubes in what I think to be the most used sockets and had no problems with connectivity(specifically the octal, 4, 6, 7, 9, pin sockets) Taken all together, with the way the switches and pots work and given the tightness of the tube sockets plus no distinguishable wear around the thumbwheel for the chart roller I don't believe that this tester has had a great deal of use. VINTAGE HICKOK TUBE TESTER MODEL 600 - FIXER UPPER OR PARTS - POWERS UP, NO LID!
Up for auction is a vintage Hickok tube tester Model 600. This unit has a missing lid/cover. The 5Y3 and 83 tubes are in working order. But the 83 is probably on its last legs, just an FYI. The tubes are dated 0-43 and 0-50. The meter is in working order too. Some mounting screws are missing and the case has normal wear, scratches, and a few gouges. The scroll works and is dated 12-1-56. All knobs and switches are in tact and appear to be functional. I was able to power this unit up without any fuss as you can see in the pictures. I tested three different tubes.80. 6CG7, and 6F6G. After testing the three tubes, I found the readings a bit lower in comparison with my TV7 tester. The worst reading was the first side of the 6CG7 as this tube is in good condition(both sides) but came up with a false bad. I also had trouble with testing a 12AX7, ... morewhere neither side gave me a reading for whatever reason. I believe all this unit needs is a good cleaning and calibration and some TLC. Unfortunately. I have no know-how in performing these things. This would make for a good candidate as a fixer upper or you may be inclined to use it for parts. The choice is yours. For its age- it is good shape except the power cord is not in good condition and therefore I am listing it as non-working for parts as I think it needs to be refurbished to put it into working condition. The handle is also worn on the exterior of the case. Normal 0 One Hickok Model 546 Vacuum Tube Tester in good working condition. The metal covered case is in very good shape with minor blems/tarnish. The inside is in very good condition with clean/tight sockets. Good meter, smooth roller chart, clean levers/switches and good controls. As with most equipment of this age an alignment may improve accuracy. The roller chart has the correct switch setting but is not correct for the Gm selection. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRIED TO PICK A NUMBER FOR A TUBE I HAD HANDY TO TEST, THE ROLL WOULD STICK. SO I TOOK IT APART TO TRY AND REMEDY THAT ISSUE. AFTER FIXING THE ROLL. THE LIGHT NO LONGER CAME ON. I SET ALL THE DIALS TO TEST THE NEW TUBE. AND NOTHING. I WOULD GUESS IT'S NOTHING MAJOR, BUT YOU NEVER CAN TELL WITH THESE OLD ELECTRONICS. ALL THE KNOBS AND BUTTONS ARE ACCOUNTED FOR. BUT THE WRAPPED WOODEN CASE IS IN PRETTY BAD SHAPE. STILL SOLID, BUT IT WILL NEED RECOVERED. THE HANDLE IS MISSING AND THE LATCHES ARE RUSTY, BUT STILL FUNCTIONAL. Hickok Model 600A Micromho Dynamic Mutual Conductance Vacuum Tube Tester
If you are looking for a tester with a nice case. This is not the one. The case is in terrible condition. It is intact enough to safely house the tester, it just doesn't look nice. I don't know if all functions are working. I am capable of; finding a tube number in the scroll. Plug the tube in, make the listed settings, push the listed button, and read the meter, good or replace. Other then setting the line adjust, this is all that I have the knowledge to do. I do not know how accurate it is, as I don't have a tube of a known condition or another tester to compare to. The face of the tester in in pretty good condition. It has definitely had some use. As you can see wear marks around the switches wear fingers have rubbed on it. There is a lens missing over the bias fuse, and the power cord is pretty cracked up and should be replaced ... moreas well as the short test lead. The metal name plate that is supposed to be glued under the lid has come off. The tube sockets seemed to work fine on the two I tried, but all look like they have light corrosion on the contacts. The scroll is complete and works well, it gets a little harder to roll as you approach the ends. There is some writing in pencil on the back of the face. I will wrap up the two tubes underneath to be sure they are not damaged during shipping. BE SURE TO OPEN AND REMOVE THE PACKAGING MATERIAL BEFORE USE! I will include a note making mention of this to be sure it is not forgotten.
