These cards were never issued, and are extremely hard to find! The set was due to be issued in 1939 but due to the Outbreak of War the cards did not make their way through to the packets as the British Government banned distribution, wanting to save the paper(yet, these were already printed! Each card is in very good plus to excellent condition, with virtually no wear. Size of the card is very large, and suitable for a small frame, measuring 2.5" wide by 3 3/8" tall. Printed on the reverse side with details of the breed, the series number and breed name. Two only! These are not only great breed collectibles and memorabilia or ephemera. ... moreThey make great gifts, dog show trophies, presents, and look incredible framed on a desk, mantle or wall! Arthur Wardle(1864- 1949) was not only the most famous canine illustrator of his time. But also illustrated the most famous breed books and encyclopedias of the day. The volume of Wardle’s paintings reproduced on collectible cigarette cards alone, totaled approximately 250. Most notable, among these were the Players Cigarette 50 full body studies in landscapes from 1929, the series of 25 head studies(two portraits per card) in the 1939, and the 1940's set of 50 head studies later re-printed in 1993. Offered for auction a trade stimulator right next to the cash register in a local candy store that went out of business in the early 60's. It is a Plinko machine just like on the Price Is Right but in a table top version. It is a little rough with some scratches gouges on the sides, but it still works perfectly. It works for pennies or dimes, and if you were lucky enough to get the coin caught in the center position you would win ten times the coin amount in candy.
