Vintage Mid Century Optical Trade Sign Large Pair of Eye Glasses
This trade sign measures 47 1/2" long by 14 1/4" Written in a frosted LETTERING IS"EYEGLASSES/ BIFOCALS and FITTING/ REPAIR. The lenses have some glass loss where they fit into the frame and one prong that holds the glass lenses into the lightweight gold colored frame is missing. I think the frame must be aluminum or light weight metal. Some nicking to the gold surface paint. Slight scratching to the lenses. This piece has to be specially packed and reinforced. Card depicts a stereotyped view of a black man titled Sporting Man, shows cigar smoking black man with outrageously large red lips, flashy green suit, blue spotted shirt with a pink bow tie and wearing a top hat, subject is holding onto a fighting rooster, and a pitbull, evidently he's going sporting tonight at the fights. Card is copyrighted 1887, by Chas. Brown. Card still has vivid colors and is relatively clean and bright. Only damage noted is a missing corner on the upper left hand side of the card. Very Rare 1650-1730 Biscayne Trade Axes/Tomahawk
This is a VERY RARE Biscay Trade Axe/Tomahawk and one of the smaller ones and less made than the bigger ones you might see even if you are luck. This Biscay Tomahawk has its COA( Certificate Of Authentication) So it takes the guess work out of it for you just like certificating coins we have it for Trade Axes/Tomahawk's too. Mark is the best in the business and very well respected in the field. Plus he deals with ebay on fakes that are out there. A little history of these Trade Axes/Tomahawk's The Biscayne trade axes are the oldest style of metal axe we know of traded in North America. The eye pattern has a distinctive ovate egg shape that contrasts considerably with typical round eyes usually found. Although some round eyed axes with the same touch marks as other Biscayne axes do occasional show up to confuse us further which are ... moreprobably from the 1700's. Records show Biscay hatchets being traded to American Indians by the Spanish as early as 1520's- 1540's; the French from about 1560-1730's; and the British from 1674-1690's? which were copies of the French ones but were recorded as imports by the blacksmith Samuel Banner from England. The terminology and history of Biscay hatchets in the fur trade are not completely understood because there are so many places surrounding Biscay Bay where other provinces and districts also named Biscay in NW France& SW Spain make it difficult to track. Surviving records are unclear. Even the spelling of the adjective'Biscaine' or'Biscayne' varies from source to source. The Spanish call them"Viscayan" axes and at least one source claims they were made initially by the Viscayans in Spain. The Basque people were rather independent themselves and often sent whalers& fishing vessels to the St. Lawrence region to trade directly with Canadian natives from the 16th C on. Antique Trade Beads Russian Blues White Hearts Buttons Native American
This is another lot of antique trade beads I'm selling for a local estate. They were traded by the white man to the Native American and then from tribe to tribe. These were picked up in the Great Basin. Eastern Sierra, many years ago. These particular beads and buttons were strung on thread which has since broken in many places. The beads are Russian blues, all sizes of white hearts including the mini ones, and amber colored glass beads. Then, there are old glass buttons, a metal button and brass brads similar to those on Levis, which have turned a nice green color. A really nice lot of antique glass trade beads.

This listing features a RARE(undated) late 1890's or very early 1900's Victorian trade card from the Culter& Proctor Stove Company of Peoria Illinois advertising the Peoria Stove. The illustration is so cute with the little girl holding her shoes in one hand and a rag in her other hand(Gugler Litho. Co. of Milwaukee) The card is in excellent condition with the exception of the upper left corner which has a rough chip. It will be mailed in a stiff photo mailer at First Class Parcel rate in lieu of First Class Mail rate for protection. All items I sell are either vintage or antique.
