Up for auction is this top quality machinists/ jeweler's tool chest. I had been told by a bidder that it was not Gerstner. So I went on a hunt for the maker. Though it does not have a badge, all the details match with Alex Dunn. The drawer profiles, brass) hardware, and unique circle in a square mirror, all match with existing examples of Alex Dunn. Lower drawer bottoms are metal. Upper drawer bottoms are wood. This box comes with the original key! It locks the top, and the top engages throw bolts that lock the cover for the boxes. Great design, and the cases and felts are not in bad shape. Unfortunately, this case has what looks like(a gloppy) coat of polyurathane finish over the outside. This OAK smaller machinists chest retains its original finish and the painted PILLIOD label. The chest overall measures 14 1/2"W x 8"D x 9 1/2"H. It has 5 drawers that all measure 12 1/2"W x 5"D I.D. dimensions with the height measuring from 1 3/4" H on the largest drawer to 1 1/4" H above it. Two of the other drawers measure 1"H and the other two measuring 3/4"H. The handle is original and the metal corner pieces are intact. It does come with a key however the lock does need some work. This is an early Jennings ca.1920 refinished Chestnut Machinists`tool chest. It is 21"x 13"x 10.5"tall and weighs 18 lbs. All of the brass hardwear is original to this chest. The key has been lost. And it has the original cast iron drop handles and the automatic drawer locking device when the lid is closed. The top compartment and the two drawers are lined with new dark green felt. Very Clean Antique Oak H Gerstner & Sons Machinists Tool Box Chest & COVER
Here we have an early 20th century antique quarter sawn or tiger oak tool chest by Gerstner which is marked on the latches. This old chest is in its original finish which is very nice for age. It has 10 felt lined drawers and 12 metal drawer and the felt has no damage but could use a little vacuuming as there are little flecks of dust inside them. Felt is original. Drawers function as intended. The drop down face has green felt in the center. Also original. All of the original hardware is intact and functions as intended and has no rust. The handle is in the best condition of any I have ever come across although under the handle there are 4 little holes that have been filled in. Although there are teeny little brown specks of paint on the top, they are very hard to spot. When you shut the top the little spring loaded locks keep the face in ... morethe upright position just like it did when it was new. The metal label is missing from the front of the chest leaving tiny holes in the wood.The little mirror in the lid is actually pretty nic. This old chest is constructed mainly of solid oak with finger joint construction along the bottom edges. Comes with the original cover which has one seam that has come loose as shown. Over all this antique oak chest is in wonderful condition considering its age and being original. I see refinished Gerstner chests on ebay but few originals that are worth owning so don't miss your chance to take home an intact piece of history. I have finally decided to sell my father's boss's father's tool box. He was a machinist in NYC. There are some tools marked as early as patent 1837. He worked there in the 1800s and I have no idea what tools and dies and taps and dies were added on. I tried to show it all the best I could in the pictures. The box is extremely heavy even without the tools. I believe it is made of oak. You really need to bid on what you see. As I can not tell you too much more about it other than I have had it since the 1950s and it was really old and he had died long before that.

Early 1900's Union Tool Chest Company. Rochester, New York. Handcrafted. Hardwood of Quartersawn Oak, original condition except the lock mechanism has been removed, and a newer knob has been added on the cover. The eight felt lined tin bottomed drawers open and close freely and all felt is intact. The front cover stores beneath the bottom drawer and provides a work space when open. The door cover has two hairlines cracks, one on each side, which I tried to photograph. The rich wood patina of this antique chest would be further enhanced with a light cleaning. H. GERSTNER & SONS # 042 Solid Oak 11 Drawer Machinists Tool Chest Box VGC
This is a vintage GERSTNER solid oak machinist's chest or tool box. Closed up it measures approx. 20 1/4" wide x 15 7/8" high( not including leather handle) x 9 3/8" from front to back. It has 11 drawers.The drawer bottoms are all made of metal. It appears to be 100% complete with all original hardware. The outside is in very good condition with some general moderate wear but with no real damage.There's some scuffs and understandably some surface wear around the areas that were touched most often. Bottom is nice and solid. There is what looks like a small drill hole in one spot on the bottom but it is minor. Overall the box has a great patina. The hardware is in good shape with some surface wear and some light rust. All the latches work very well. The drawers and top compartment have the original green felt in pretty ... moredecent condition with some wear and lighter staining. The felt on the backside of the drop front has some wear and staining.On the top compartment lid. Stuck to the felt are 2 golf ball patches on the opposite end from these patches is a small hole in the felt. I don't see and cracks in the wood anywhere.The little metal finger hole on the front is slightly lifted at the upper and bottom edges. This could easily be removed and straightened I'm sure but it is pretty minor anyway.The leather handle is in great shape and very sturdy. I do not have the key. Overall this is a real fine solid chest, great looking and sturdy. High bid pays postage.

Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. Great old machinist's chest to be used again or to convert to a jewelry box. Great oak exposed wood finish on this case. The corners are dovetailed and the corner edges still have their metal protectors on them. The right side has 3 vertical cracks in it that run from top to bottom that need some gluing attention. The 8 drawers are still lined with felt. Although dirty from the tools that have been stored in it. The brass metal knobs are still on each of the drawers. Some of the drawers have a hard board for a bottom and some have a galvanized steel. ... moreThe lock has been taken out of the box. Not sure of the maker of the box. Could be a Gerstner. Antique/ Vintage 7 Drawer Dark Oak Machinists Tool Chest Up for auction is a nice old 7 drawer solid oak machinist tool chest box. I don't see a manufcture plate on this chest but the construction. Metal corner plates, hinges, latches and the lock latch configuration resembles a Grestner chest. The drawer pulls have been replaced with pulls that have"DISSTON" printed on them. The wood is in good condition with no damage. Cracks or splits. The felt is worn and t here are a few scratches but nothing major. All of the joints are tight and the latches and hinges work properly. There is a locking plunger rod on the right side that engages the front cover to secure it in place when the lid is closed. Ocassionally. the front cover needs to be pushed to the right a little so the plunger will engage. An 11 drawer chest by Gerstner. That belonged to a local machinist, once employed by American Motors in Kenosha, WI. I believe this may be a model 042, and it measures 20" x 9.5" x 16" and weighs 27.25 pounds. It is in used condition, with the following issues of note: lifting veneer on the backside near the bottom, leather wrap mostly gone from the handle, but the handle itself is quite strong and sound, it is missing the interior mirror and one knob handle from a drawer. and there is scattered soiling to the drawer felts. On the plus side, the original key is present, and also the pictured Gerstner paper note for available covers is interesting. It also has an attractive darker finish, but with an old union sticker on the front, and you can also see two discolorations on the front where stickers once were attached. Very nice Union tool chest in Oak. Overall very good condition: Original felt all present; no rips but some wear and minor staining. Original handle in good condition. All original hardware is present. Has developed patina of decades of use, but is all functioning as it should All 4 latches latch securely with no loose screws; Both hinges are secure and operating smoothly. Center locking hinge operates smoothly. But there is no key. All corner guards. Drawer pulls. Front panel pull, and mirror are present. Are all original and in good shape. All wood is present. With the exception of a couple of small strips of oak veneer from the back; one just below the hinges, and another at the very bottom of the back. The top is all intact. You are buying ONE used drawer slide from a vintage Kennedy machinists tool box. The drawer slides are nice and straight. Retainer springs appear to be in good shape. The slides worked smoothly and the springs snapped well when I pulled them from the box. The slide measures about 7 9/16" long and about 11/16" tall. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK THE LENGTH OF YOUR DRAWER SLIDE BEFORE ORDERING. This part is marked"Patents 2.277,702-3" If you have a stuck drawer on a Kennedy box. Vintage H.Gerstner & Sons Model O41B Oak Machinists Tool Chest Beautiful
Here we have a fully restored H. Gerstner& Sons model O41B that was manufactured in the 1930's. It is made of quarter sawn tiger oak. Which has been beautifully restored. All the components on the chest are original: the lock, snaps, hinges, corner hardware, finger pull, drawer pulls, mirror and frame and handle. All the green felt has been replaced. It has its original key which was manufactured by Eagle Lock Co. of Terryville, Conn. Eagle Lock was the exclusive provider of locks and keys to Gerstner until their factory burned down in the 1960's. The handle has some leather missing, but considering it is around 80 years old, it still has its shape and carries the load. Also the 2 side snaps have no tension bars, so they move freely, but still lock in place. In spite of being 80 years old, this box is beautiful, and gives one ... morethe opportunity to own a classic Gerstner tool chest. Chest measures: 20" wide, 12 1/2" Tall, 8 3/8" deep.
