Circa 1900 Folky Hand Made Horse Blanket for Parade Campaign Use. Promotes U.S. Presidential candidate William McKinley and his Vice-Presidential running mate Theodore Roosevelt. This patriotic item is hand pieced and machine sewn with hand applied lettering and embellishments. Lettering on either side of the blanket reads. McK& R" Composition includes red flannel fabric with white and blue ribbon embellishments. Raw cut cotton fabric letters have hand stitched application. Metallic garland and four rosettes are also hand applied. Backing is a canvas fabric. Approximate sizes: Central measurement as the blanket would lay on the horses back is about 26" ... morein length. The two-color text was laid out with pencil markings and over-painted with oil paints onto what appears to be a fabric woven with a blend of wool and cotton. A lively composition with whimsical embellishments and mariner's stars. Nice use of the second color to create depth and shadowing in the lettering. Painted on one side only. Mr. Goodbar was introduced in 1925 by the Hershey Co. According to a Wikipedia article. Milton Hershey did not want the Hershey brand name associated with a candy that contained peanuts, so it was marketed under the fictitious Chocolate Sales Corporation name. The box contained 24 5¢ candy bars. And measures about 8” x 7 ½” The bottom part is designed to display the bars, with the information on all four sides. The top part is separated at two corners, but otherwise complete. The package was“hermetically sealed” so the paper around the bottom edges had to be cut to separate the two halves, Otherwise, except for some minor soiling and age darkening, the box is in good condition.
