WW1 USA Gas Mask, Filter & Bag, 28th Division, I'd. - HERO brand -Colored Lens
Another fine auction from Marway Militaria in Winnipeg. Manitoba, Canada. WW1. USA, Gas mask, filter and bag. Mask, is the AMERICAN BOX RESPIRATOR style and a later issue with the yellow filter can. The mask light green colored fiber. With round dull yellow lens and marked 158H163G, no rips or tears. 5 black fibber head straps. Inside mask Nose clip still present and a detached mouth piece, that has broken off due to rubber hardening but still present. Black metal guard between the hose joint and the mask. Overall the mask is dried out but still quite good for its age. Filter is yellow painted. Showing scuffing and wear marks, marked on top with word HERO, in a 4 armed Cross(Embossed) and 156H over H, also embossed. The hose is flexible, light tan cloth covered, with markings 21 over 1818 on it and is approx. 12" long. Hose is stiff ... morebut no holes or tears. The khaki case is the US issue. Two snap fastener flip top, with wide adjustable carrying straps. Bag is of canvas,dried and very rigid, showing use and age darkening but no holes or tears. Marked under the flap 660141 over 9-18-13. On the front same number and in in ink at bottom, WILL HINSON PvT over Co a 111th Inf over 28 in blunted Arrow head design. On the back number 3 on the flap and below the broken Arrow Head design(Of the 28th Division) with 20 over THE over IRON over DIV, painted on red and word W. HINSON. Inside the bag is divided into 2 compartments. Attached to the bag with a cord a envelope with words. THIS ENVELOPE CONTAINS, INSTRUCTIONS, RECORD CARD, TAPE FOR REPAIRS and inside the envelope is a fold open card with instructions, blank info page, 3 strips of fiber for repairing. Trying to pare down the gas mask a bit further. This style is the old school large filter carried in a shoulder bag rather than a smaller one screwed into the mask itself. This allowed you to have a more long lasting filter in the sustained NBC environment. A size 2 SCHMS mask. Made in 1986 I believe. Filter still in paper wrapper and dated 1986 as well. No stains, rips or tears on a supple full head mask. Tin of spare eye lenses in pocket on side of bag. Hose about 19 inches long. Priced low to get it off my shelf. Sorry. Way to heavy to send first class international. This is an obsolete military artifact. It is in nobody's current inventory is not considered an embargoed item. This is a lot of 5 very small 5x9x2mm mid Ir optical interference filters. They are for the absorption bands of Water vapor. Carbon dioxide, Nitrous oxide, and various halogenated anesthetic compounds. These could be useful for laboratory analysis, and could be used to detect other material with the same band width of absorption. The CO2, N2O and H2O filters are near 4um band pass. The others are 9-12um range. I do not know the exact wavelengths though. This item is pretty hard to find I have lots of lasers and other unique stuff for sale this week.

It measures 15 3/8” across and it shows the Mobil flying Pegasus logo and the words‘Mobiloil’ and‘Ethyl. CONDITION: Please study the photos and judge for yourself. On the back side. Bottom edge, there is a ¼” chip that does not go through to the front-photo 5. At the top edge there is a tiny 1/16” spot where the frosting is missing-photo 6. We have tested it looking at diamonds and it works great. Lens are clear with no scratches. Adjusting knobs all work properly. Crystal clear results when viewing. The lens are Leica 10x/23– bi lens. Zoom works great. As does the table adjustment. Rotates as it should with no problems found or noted. The white light and black light both work with no issues noted. The plastic knobs do show some stains from previous use with red clay or mud. Red clay/mud/dirt from Oklahoma stains- Not really bad- just noting. This was used for oil and gas in Oklahoma. Does not have the original case. However the previous owner built a custom box for transport(not padded) Built of plywood with nice hinges. This lens recently came out of the back room of a long closed service station that got the lens when it was new. When it was taken off of the gas pump it was loosely wrapped up in the local 1955 newspaper. Then it was put on a back room shelf and forgot about until just recently. The lens has a few small chips along the edge where the metal ring held it in the holder but other than that it is in remarkable condition. The pictures with the lens on the 1955 newspaper show how this was found.With all of the dirt, dust and grime that had accumulated over the years. The rest show how it looks after just being washed with mild soap and water. This would be a excellent addition to anyone's gas and oil/ petroliana collection. Nice 1950's Casite Advertising Thermometer 12 " Gas Oil Glass Lens Sign Advert
This 12 inch CASITE dial thermometer still works well and dates from the 1950's era. It has a metal frame& back with a glass(NOT PLASTIC) face. The glass face is solid with no cracks. There is some slight haziness along the bottom edge of the glass as well as small spots on the face where there is some wear. This type of wear is common for these old thermometers as they were made to hang outside in all weather for many years. The metal is in nice shape with some rust on back. I have not tried to clean this. Completely original with no touch ups or repairs. Casite thermometers are highly sought after and sell for a premium price.
