The 401/401A was one of thebest and strongest home sewing machines that Singer ever made. It isnothing like today's plastic machines. It is all metal. Including itsmost important feature, allmetal gears. It will make dozens and dozens of fancystitches. And not only that, most of the stitches are adjustable for length andwidth. The serial# is NA513411, made in the USA. This machine has been professionally serviced andis very clean. It has been oiled and greased to factoryinstructions. The camshave been cleaned. The tensionhas been taken apart and cleaned. The balance wheel has beentaken off and cleaned, the tension mechanism has been removed and cleaned. Thebed of the machine bed has been cleaned and polished. The cords have no cracks. This machine doesn't haveany of the green corrosion that is often seen around the joints of the tanbed. ... moreThe bobbin winder works. The top-motion clutch works, the bed feet are intact, the light works,the throat plate lever works and the throat plate lifts easily for darning orfree motion quilting. You aren't going to find any lint, thread nests, orrust on this machine. This machine is so strong that lastweek I used it to take in the waistband of a pair of bluejeans using a denim needle. I have included my spool of heavy dutyorange thread just in case the new owner wants to do a little blue jeanrepair. The included manual is 90pages and is in exceptionally fine condition. The manual looks like new. I have never seen a manual so nice. The slide bobbin cover doesn't look original in that it has a duller finish than the plate under the needle. Included are 4 bobbins and a spool of thread. One of the bobbins is installed. This machine was in a cabinet that had worn out. I salvaged the knee control and the hinged part that mounts on the wheel end of the machine. The knee control is missing the part your knee pushes. But the control works fine otherwise. I also salvaged a holder from the inside of the cabinet I think would have been used with a foot control if the machine came with it. This machine uses a knee control. But I thought you could possibly use the holder, so it's included. The hinges that attached the machine to the cabinet are also included along with the screws.
