HP 400EL 10Hz-10MHz AC Voltmeter, Good Condition, carefully used!
You are bidding on a gently used HP 400 EL High Stability AC Voltmeter with a 10Hz- 10 MHz bandwidth. You can see a superb article on the design. Development and performance of the 400EL in the January 1966 issue of the HP Journal at. The 400EL can be used both as an AC Voltmeter and as an AC amplifier(the output of the amplifier is extracted at the BNC connector at the rear– you can see the jack labeled“Output” in the photograph of the back panel. I have not ever used it as an amplifier(I have other very low noise wideband amplifiers) But the meter works well, as you can see from the picture with the scope calibrator connected to the input. I have used it to measure voltages from microvolts(amplifier noise) to tens of volts. The ac output impedance at the BNC jack is 50 ohms and full scale output voltage into an open circuit is 150 mV rms(105 ... moremV on the 1-mV range) In addition, it has a ground referenced DC output(a great innovation at the time) and a logarithmic display scale. I have not had it calibrated. And so cannot vouch for its precision, but it seems accurate when I feed it known voltages. It is spec’d to be flat +/1% from 10 Hz to 10 MHz, and I have exercised it over this entire bandwidth. Overall, the measuring range of the instrument is from below 50 micro volts to 300 volts in 12 ranges, the most sensitive being 1 millivolt full scale. This was a very innovative device when HP introduced it, and it continues to be a good workhorse. I am selling this only because I am consolidating test instruments, and as most of my work is now done at frequencies

This is in original, excellent condition for it's age. Nice mahogany case with glass front. We have not tested it, but do not see any reason why it would not work. It has all three knuled terminal nuts on top and the orignal leather strap, which is torn. We opened the unit to make sure there was no internal corrosion and all looks good. Rycom 2147A-610 VLF Recevier Selective Voltmeter Range: 30 KC to 500 KC in 6 bands. Working. But needs clean-up, meter calibration and alignment. Likely it also needs some of the paper caps replaced. This unit has been used for monitoring NDB and LowFER transmissions to study LF propagation in the 160 to 500kc range. On a day with good propagation and low electrical noise WWVB can be heard at 60kc. Band B. To verify operation. The radio was tuned to a local airport NDB at 353 kc and reception was clear and readable with a short length of hookup wire for an antenna. During operation. The attenuator functions as RF gain, and Cal2 Level functions as a variable IF gain. Avoid cranking the gain too high as the stage will regenerate. The 100 cycle sharp filter setting of the selectivity control appears to be inoperative and the BFO1 and BFO2 positions ... morehave not proved useful for casual monitoring. If the sine wave is switched to a square wave. The output is the proper 1.414V for the same amplitude signal source. The case is in almost perfect condition with nothing broken nor any scratches. Make sure to check out all of my other auctions after you look at this one. I'm listing an eclectic assortment of antiques and collectibles. And I suspect there will be something to interest just about everyone. I think this is the most beautiful electrical measuring instrument I've ever seen. It's a Westinghouse Precision Voltmeter made of brass. Glass and what appears to be bakelite, although it may actually be polished hard rubber. The apparatus is housed in a solid mahogany cabinet, with a lid, and the panel is secured to the cabinet with brass screws. It is being sold for historical and/or display purposes only. No warranty is being made with respect to its suitability for use. I do not know whether it is an AC meter or a DC meter, and I can find no indication of the current type on the data plates. I'm dating the device ... moreto 1890-1910 because of the spelling of"Pittsburg. Pittsburgh was spelled without an"h" at the end between those years. The condition of the meter itself is almost like new. The panel is flawless. The glass is undamaged, the screws are original, and no screws are missing. The dial on the meter is likewise almost like new. The calibration rod that runs into the meter(at least I think it's a calibration rod) is slightly curved, but the rod turns easily and the scales on the dial move when it's turned. The cabinet is in excellent condition. As you can see in the photographs. The base and lid retain their undamaged original finish, and the data plate on the lid is still in excellent condition(although there is no date anywhere on it) The data plate on the cabinet's base is also in excellent condition and indicates the meter was the property of Westinghouse's Chicago operation. I don't know if the meter works. For that matter. I'm not even sure which sliding scale on the dial is the metering arm. Or, as I noted above, whether it meters direct current or alternating current. The coils all appear to be in perfect condition, but no assurance can

Vintage radio hobbiest or anyone working on vacuum tube circuits The B&K 177 was a workhorse of the electronic repair shops in the 1960s through 1980s. It has a large seven inch mirrored scale for accurate easy-to-read measurements and a 0.5 volt dc scale for low voltage measurements. The meter has separate ac volts scales for the 1.5 V and 5 V ranges giving better low ac volts accuracy than instruments lacking this feature. This meter is completely refurbished. Fully calibrated and accuracy verified on all ranges. It is supplied with a calibration data sheet showing the accuracy on each range(see photo) It is fully guaranteed to meet or exceed the original manufacturer’s specifications. This meter is factory assembled(not a ... morekit) and has a large 7 inch meter with separate low ac volts scales. It exceeds the manufacturer’s specs on nearly all ranges and readings. Spec is 3% of full scale on dc and 5% on ac. This one is within 1% on most ranges and functions. See the calibration data sheet picture. This instrument is in very good cosmetic condition showing only very minor signs of prior use. The meter face is flawless. The case did not need repainting. This VTVM was factory-designed with no need for an ohms battery or a rectifier tube for ac volts. It has only one tube. The 12AU7.
