Not sure of the vintage, but this one looks at least 20 years old. Unit has been recently tested and faithfully delivers Zero to 135VAC on it’s standard two prong outlet with 117 VAC on the primary. Information plate on front of unit indicates a Max KVA 1, and 7 ½ Amp. Large upper control knob turns smoothly without binding, voltage rises gently without intermittent drop-outs or surges, and voltage output is consistent with calibration marks. Cosmetics are not the greatest with some blue paint chipped off the housing, but you’re probably not shopping for cosmetics when you need a good variac. No dents, grime build-up, or other signs of abuse, power cord is safe and pliable, ... morefuse and fuse holder are fine, and all the original hardware and fasteners are present. All in all, a very reliable working unit that’s a must for antique radio hobbyists or anyone in need of a smoothly controllable AC voltage. Is fused and has an AC line cord with grounded plug. It provides an adjustable output from 0 to about 140 Volts AC and is rated at 1 Ampere continuous duty. This is a MOTORIZED! Superior Electric 60MC126U Powerstat in great condition. It has built in limit switches to adjust the maximum and minimum output. Presently they are set for full limits in each direction. This unit is controlled by placing 120 V onto the specific contacts. To control the unit you place the neutral from a 120 V line on terminal one. And apply the 120 V hot wire to terminal 2 or 3 depending on which direction you wish to go. If it has reached it's end of travel as set by the cams which trigger the limit switches, it will only move in the reverse direction. This has been cleaned, reconditioned, and lubricated. While it was being reconditioned I removed the rotor and took pictures so you can see how clean this unit really is. This is really an important thing to see on these because it will show any wear. Huge 8.4KVA General Electric Variac - 240V 35A; Fully Tested and Working.
For sale is a big 240V. 35A variac made by General Electric. I purchased this variac a few years ago as an array of three of these beasts in a 3-phase lashup. I have since decided that I really only need one of these things, so I split the stack and am offering two of them on ebay, starting with this one. This variac is in excellent shape. There are some very light scratches from typical age and use. However even that is at a minimum. The sliding contacts are in great shape and make good full contact with the windings. The one disadvantage is that I kept the control knob for my own variac, so this one does not come with a control knob. I tested this variac on 120V and can confirm it does work as intended. See pictures 4 through 6 to see me ramping up the voltage. There are no dead spots when going from one side to the other. All pictures ... moreare of the actual unit for sale. With the exception of the last picture. The final picture is of the first of the three variacs' faceplate, showing the model number and the rating of the entire stack. The other two units, of which this is one of, do not have their faceplates filled in with information. The 60A rating on the final picture is for the entire stack, so it took some digging around to discover the single-phase rating of each core. GE handed over manufacturing of the volt-pac variacs to Weschler Instruments. Their equivalent model number seems to be 9T92A75 for the three-phase stack, which uses 3 type-95 cores. The single-phase single-core type 95 frame thus has a rating of 35 amps at 240V, hence my rating. For more information see this PDF here: This unit is very heavy at about 60lbs. For auction is a vintage General Electric Variac variable transformer. It is for 120VAC use and is in very good condition. I have tested it. And found it to work properly. The variable 0-120VAC output adjusts smoothly, as it should. The label has fallen off of this unit some time ago. So I cannot confirm its model number, but based on its dimensions I believe it to be rated at 10A. It does not provide voltage boost, it has only three connections(the 2 ends of the winding, plus the variable"wiper" connection) so its output voltage varies from 0-100% of line voltage. The transformer core itself measures about 4" diameter and 3-1/4" high. The overall width of the unit is about 6" And the overall height is about 5-1/2" The 4 mounting holes in the base appear to be sized for 1/4" bolts on a 3.5" to 4" ... moresquare pattern.
