If you're into the real vintage stuff, you'll be glad to know it still has the older large 4, 5, 6& 7-pin sockets in addition to the standard 8-pin octal& loctal and 7& 9-pin miniatures. The Knight KG-600 series of testers. Like the Eico 625 and 628, and the Heathkit TC-1, TC-2, TC-3, IT-21, IT-17 and IT-3117 all used the Triplett designed circuit made famous in their model 3413 tube tester. In fact, the test data for all these tube testers is generally interchangeable. This makes for a good sanity test if you think your tube settings are wrong. Just look up the settings for one of the other testers and use it for comparison testing! The Knight KG-600 series of testers was a bit unique. However. By using separate filament and high voltage secondary windings on the power transformer, instead of a single winding as in other testers, Knight was able to add a gas test, and was able to do so without adding any extra components. This gas test feature is unique to the Knight KG-600 series. None of the other manufacturers of similar testers had it. Don't let the lack of extra lever switches for the 12-pin Compactron tubes fool you. The Knight KG-600B is fully able to test these tubes just as it does the others. Unlike other manufacturers. Knight realized that the extra switches weren't necessary, as all Compactron filaments are connected to pins 1 and 12 and don't have to be switched. Thus, all ten lever switches are available to connect the remaining ten tube pins. As these testers were intended to be constructed by persons who may not have access to calibration equipment. TV-7A/U Tube Tester Complete and Working Audio Ham Radio
Up for auction is a TV-7A/U Tube Tester. This tester is from a collection I'll be auctioning over the next few months. It has been stored indoors in a smoke free and climate controlled home. The TV-7 series of military tube testers is considered one of the best testers ever made. The design is supremely rugged and compact. It tests a great many types quickly and easily and enjoys wide support. If you want a tube tester that gives great results with a small footprint the TV-7 is it. If you want a rugged tester you can travel with this one is also hard to beat. I love my TV-2 and I suppose it's portable but it hasn't moved from my bench in years and isn't likely to. I tested this TV-7 against my TV-2 using a few reference tubes and I got the expected result in every case. The meter is a bit off zero when powered down but the ... moretest results were good for both known good and bad tubes. That example has some dents. Dings and scratches typical of the rough handling these were designed to withstand. The hinge pins are bent but the lid still closes properly. All controls and switched are working properly. Jackson 648R fully functional tube tester..reconditioned. Not Sencore or B&K
The controls have been cleaned and adjusted. New capacitor and resistors checked for tolerance. I used a reference set of tubes to validate test results against my calibrated TV-7 and it passed with flying colors. Shown testing good reference 6L6, 5Y3, and 12AX7. Also used a 6L6 with known short to validate that shorts test operates properly. I will warrant this tester to be fully funcional for all the tubes I validate against. The case is solid with no loose joints and good hinges, but some of the tolxex covering shows wear and could use attention. This will make someone a very reliable tube tester. I am also checking out a Sencore MU150 Continental II and a B&K 747 that will be available later.

Up for auction is a Western Electric Hickok KS-15750-L2 Tube Tester. This tester is from a collection I'll be auctioning over the next few months. It has been stored indoors in a smoke free and climate controlled home. Included is a copy of the operator's manual and an extensive tube data supplement. The KS-15750-L2 was manufactured by Hickok for Western Electric and is of the highest quality. Despite being built for industrial research and development service this example has escaped with only a few dings and scratches suggesting limited use. Upon opening the lid a stunning faceplate and knobs are revealed once again confirming limited service. The only detraction is a missing right hand lid stop arm and stud. This part is made of bent steel rod and can be easliy fabricated. The KS-15750-L2 is a truly beautiful tube tester. Franklin Radio D-33 Tube Tester
This tester shows almost no signs of use. No cracks. Chips, deep scratches. The case appears to be totally intact. And made of Bakelite. This is being sold AS-IS. As a museum quality example. While I'm fairly certain it could be restored and used. I'm not sure anybody would want to. I cut off the power cord because the rubber was very badly deteriorated. I did not replace it for safety reasons.The schematic indicates some parts of this tester may be only a diode drop away from the 115VAC power line. If I were going to use a device like this. I would absolutely use an isolation transformer! It looks like the shellac on two power resistors is totally dried out and flaking off. They don't appear burned. Eico 625 Tube Tester- Very Nice& Accurate! HAM Here's another nice Eico model 625 from my seemingly inexhaustible supply of tube testers. It's one of the early models with the beautiful blue face that many collectors prefer. It has the old 4. 5, 6& 7-pin sockets that you need if you're restoring vintage radios. Of course it also has the"modern" octal, loctal, 7-pin miniature and 9-pin miniature sockets too. The test circuit of the Eico 625 was taken from the Triplett model 3413. It is virtually identical to the Heathkit TC-2, TC-3, IT-21, IT-17 and IT-3117, and the Knight KG-600 series of testers, and test data for these instruments is generally interchangeable. The Eico series of test instruments were intended for professional use. And were marketed mostly to radio and TV repairmen through the local electronic ... moreparts dealerships, and their all steel construction shows it. To ensure accuracy of a newly built kit. Eico didn't provide any calibration adjustments for this model tester, relying instead on the inherent accuracy achieved by the use of close tolerance components in the measuring circuits. Calibration consists of ensuring that all these components, including the meter, are within tolerance. This has been done. All the old ½ Watt carbon composition resistors have been replaced with modern, more stable 1 Watt carbon film types, and this instrument is working as it should on all ranges. It is shown in the second photo testing a new 6L6GC tube. The tube, of course, is not included in the auction. This instrument is in very nice condition. It is clean inside and out and shows no sign of corrosion. The chart rolls freely from end to end. And it works like it was new. A complete reprint of the instruction manual with schematic is included with the auction. It includes an errata giving the US equivalent tube type numbers for common European tubes. TeleTest DynaMatic DM 456 Automatic Tube Tester with Cards -- Working, but...
You are bidding on a TeleTest DynaMatic model DM 456 card-controlled automatic tube tester. This little portable tube tester is a poor man's version of the famous Hickok/Western-Electric"Cardmatic" units. The DynaMatic uses punched plastic cards(see photo 3 for a sample) to make the settings for each tube type. Simply choose the correct card using the chart(photo 4) Insert it in the slot, set the filament voltage and"calibration" control, and plug in the tube. Turn the test knob to perform shorts, mutual conductance, life, and gas tests. Much faster than tube testers with knobs or push buttons for settings. Accepts most common vintage 7-pin, 9-pin, and octal tubes. Note that the meter scale is in micromhos: This is not just a simple emissions tester. Measures 12" by 9" by 6" and weighs only about 10 ... morepounds. Not a laboratory instrument, but very handy for quick checks of common tubes, especially away from the bench. I have tested this on a variety of tubes. Including 6V6, 6L6, 12AT7, etc. Photo 1 shows a good 6V6 reading almost 6000 on the GM scale. The tester works well and is easy to use, but is touchy: Sometimes the card has to be wiggled to get the tube's filament to come on and perform the test. I am guessing that the contacts for the card reader need to be cleaned. I think all you would have to do is open the case and clean the metal fingers on the card reader with tuner spray or light emery cloth. This is a very useful tool for servicing vintage electronic equipment. I'd keep it if I didn't have a lot of other tube testers. I have been collecting antique radios and TV's for more than 30 years. Hickok 529A tube tester
I have a Hickok 539A tube tester for auction. The photos show the condition fairly. The instrument deck is in fine cosmetic condition but the case has some bumps and duct tape repairs. The unit has worked on all the tubes I have tried over the years and worked on a sampling today. The knobs and switches all work smoothly as they should. The paper roll works fine and there are no tears in it. It gives the expected readings for new tubes but it has not been calibrated in at least the 15 years I've had it. I bought it from a research facility and they did perform calibration but I don't know when the last one was done. It also comes with some tip sheets and supplemental data for additional tubes not included on the roll. The roll is copyright 1961. AVO VCM163 Tube tester "Worlds Best Tester"
The AVO Valve Characteristic Meter V.C.M. 163 All voltages applied to the electron tube under test are pure 50 Hz line frequency sine waves. The plate(British: anode) as well as the screen electrode via diodes D1 and D2 are supplied with sinusoidal positive half wave voltages(cf. fig. 2) AVO unusually terms rectifier diodes D1 and D2‘suppressor’ diodes probably due to the fact that they suppress the negative half wave. Via diode D4 an unsmoothed negative half wave(grid BIAS) is applied to the grid electrode in proper phase relationship. I.e. anti-phase, to the positive electrode voltages. This is quite a clever and economical principle because the power supply becomes extremely simple(among other things no filtering) In addition power requirement of the line transformer(C core type) is half compared to a DC supply. A) Principle of measurement ... moreof plate and screen current AVO engineers have evaluated and verified that if alternating electrode voltages are applied in their correct proportions an amplifying tube(by virtue of its property of self-rectification) produces DC plate and screen currents. Which for all practical purposes, bear an almost constant relationship to those obtained from its DC static characteristics. In the VCM 163 the following relationship between AC supply and DC static characteristics is implemented: The left meter movement(cf. fig. 1) reads DC plate and screen current continuously. B) Principle of mutual conductance measurement Measurement of mutual conductance(= transconductance) is based on a sophisticated operational principle using a transistorized high frequency(HF) oscillator and a frequency selective HF amplifier(fig. 2. Resembling a sleek. Mid 1960's business executive's briefcase, in both size and style. this decked out machine looks more at home in a mid-century office, than on at the electronics tech's bench. Very cool to use and look at, these are verifiably collectible. The appeal does not end there. it's the flagship Sencore tube tester- very expensive when new- not as popular as competitor's B&K models- and much more invloved and capable. Sencore went the high road with asthetics. And sold these back in the 1960s for huge money. They staged educaton seminars for technitions back then, showing off all of the advanced features the MU150 had, compared to other types of portables. A tube era technition or traveling engineer generally left Sencore's show, feeling these were the deus-ex machina of tube troubles! It's quite ... moretrue. He was an electronics engineer for IBM. Maxtor and StorageTek. I've been helping my family by selling his electronics equipment on Ebay. This unit has always been kept indoors, in a smoke free and climate controlled environment. It applies individual voltages to all elements and sends a varying ac signal to the grid of the tube under test. Its actual amplification factor is measured as a Gm value on the meter. Its the only way to truly match tubes in amplifiers. This tester will handle: 4.5,6,7,8 pin large base tubes; 8 pin octals; 7 pin miniatures; Acorn tubes. It does not have a socket for 9 pin miniatures. It measures Gm. Shorts and leakage/gas. Gm readings 0-3000/6000/15000. Case and face of unit are in nice condition for its age, however it is missing its lid. When testing tubes, I found this tester to perform all prescribed tests successfully, but it gives slightly lower readings than my calibrated Hickok 6000A tester. I believe the issue to be one of the incoming line level which tells me the 83V mercury vapor tube or the 5Y3 rectifier tube may be getting a little on the weak side.
