Wavetek Model 3000 Signal Generator. For Parts. Servicable? THE GOOD: The unit powers up. None of the LEDs on the 4 modules that have them are lighted. The front panel attenuator works as far as I can tell. The front LEDs work. see the pictures) The case sides. Top and bottom are in pretty good shape given normal usage. The inside is very clean. THE NOT SO GOOD: The frequency of the output is not what is shown on the selector switches but it is stable. There is a note on the M172 module stating that it has a problem. The front panel attenuator dial plate is cracked in 2 places. That is all the testing/checking I have done to it. This sig gen has been sitting in my storage room for a long time. ITEM IS SOLD AS IS. This is saying goodbye to an old friend. I’ve owned this baby since the early 1970’s. Built like a tank and well shielded. Basically it works but there are a few issues. The 400 cycle modulation does not work– I think it needs a new 6SN7. The output drops some on the 70-120 MC band. But other wise all seems OK– when it went into storage I thought it was working. The output is reasonably accurate across the frequency span. When set at 100,000 uV I read 6.02 dB(it should be 7 dB) given its age that is remarkably accurate. We did give the cabinet a fresh overcoat of hammertone gray. I sold off my tube stock earlier this year or I would have replaced the tubes. I know it is using the same set since I’ve owned it. It used to run along on my work bench in the late 1970s through about 1992 and was never turned off. It is very stable once set. The ... morecrystal oscillator works and I’ve included a 1-MHz crystal(the wire pins don’t quite fit– but it stays in) I had to order a manual for it– there isn’t one on line. The nameplate says R&D Instruments but on that label and under it says Hickok 295X. It is heavy– this really should not go international because of the size and weight. The box is heavy cardboard and is 24X24X13 and 45 pounds. It is packed within heavy bubble wrap and then 2-inch Styrofoam– the box and foam cost $15 so there is a International handling charge on this item. Economy shipping within US 48 is $40.00 most likely by FedEx Ground. Here we have a Vintage U.S. Army TS-497B/URR Signal Corps Generator Because I am not sure how to use it my testing is limited. It powers up and I have displayed it in the photos switched on and Off. as you can see as I turned the knobs needles started to move. The large knob just requires an Allen key( hex Key) to tighten the grub screw on the stork. the dial moves just need tightening on. MONSANTO 3100A FREQUENCY SYNTHESIZER. Highly Accurate/ High Resolution/ Dial Selectable Signal Generator/ Sweep Generator Calibrated to a Rubidium Standard! I have tested this excellent unit on video for you to see. I have listed it as not working. Because I cannot verify the computer I/O built into the unit. It may be working fine. The rest of the unit works very nicely, as you will see in the video. Introduced about 1968. The 3100A was recognized as a top performer. It should have too, as it cost about as much as 1/2 the annual wages(roughly $5.000 in 1969, that would be $32.000 in 2014 dollars! of a typical American at the time. It was state of the art and computer engineered(when computers were main frames only and expensive) It provided an enormous amount of selectivity. Had unbelievable accuracy and wide range of capabilities. Many ... morescience institutions, like Sandia Labs(where this unit likely came from) NASA, and many universities utilized them in leading edge research. It was used by the University of Rochester to time Pulsars back in 1969 and to measure the rate of atomic decay at the University of Michigan in 1975. I got my hands on this unit about a year ago. It was purchased from a New Mexico salvage company. It was dirty and didn't function. But it cleaned up well and with a few parts and a little work it was running. The most important repair made was on the OCXO timebase used. The original, a real beauty, was long dead. So, I searched for a stable 1 mhz source and found a nice unit made by Vectron(CO236T) With a little work I was able to install the new oscillator within the casing of the old, and still be able to adjust it just as easily as the original. I have started and stopped this unit many times to observe it's stability and warm up time(some are on the opening sequences on the video) After about 2 hours the unit stabilizes in temperature and frequency at 1,000,000.00 hz +/02hz. Lodestar Combination Signal Generator & Frequency Counter 150MHz
Here are two pieces of test equipment in one. You get a signal generator that goes from 100kHz to 150MHz. You get a frequency counter that goes from 10Hz to 150MHz. I tested the sig gen by using a shortwave radio. It picked up the modulated signals from the generator with no issues and with no direct connection. I tested over 100mhz using an FM radio and it also indicated it saw the signal with no issue. All bands work. The display works fine. Next. I connected the output of my main signal generator to this unit and put it in frequency counter mode. It worked as the specs say all the way up to 150MHz. A nice unit that shows a bit of wear. But looks nice and seems to work great.
