Marconi 2031 2.7GHz Signal Generator, Partially Working
This unit works perfectly from 1.35-2.7GHz. Below 1.35GHz the power level is accurate when set to 11-13dBm. But falls rapidly below that. When the level is-3 to-5dBm it is accurate again, and falls again. This repeats every 20dB and coincides with the switching of the attenuator. Not sure if this is a hardware of software problem, but everything else seems to work. Unit has lots of modulation options and a built-in function generator for modulation. On carefully firing this up I was quite surprised to find this functioning well on all ranges and the readings on my frequency meter(I don't have a'scope) corresponding closely to those on the dial. I left it running for about half an hour and did not detect any overheating or burning smells etc. The output control is a little shaky until it gets past the first 1/5(2 volts) or so of its travel but fine thereafter. Meter on instrument agrees with my DMM within 10% or so. Valves are: Brimar 6V6GT. 6J5GT, 6SN7GT& Zaerix 6X5GT What remains of the mains lead(which has been cut off) has the modern colours suggesting that this may have been in use within the last 30 years or so.
