Simpson Vacuum Tube A.C. Millivolt/dB meter. Model 717-I. Serial No. 50507 This is a good quality meter with the mirrored scale to minimise parallax error. It has a great range from 1mV RMS. Full scale, up to 300V. As a dB meter. Measuring from-60dB to +50dB, it is great for audio measurements, particularly of valve electronics. The meter is in great condition with the exception of some scuffing of the case. I have refurbished this unit and been using it myself. All components have been checked. The resistors are excellent for their age. Most electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with the exception of the two main supply caps in the can- these measured fine and. As it is impossible to get a direct replacement, I decided to leave them. I fitted a standard IEC mains socket and replaced the broken fuseholder to modern standards. The meter works and the readings are accurate. I have calibrated the voltage readings to my digital multimeter(which I have checked) and the relative ranges and scaleing is good(within the width of the needle) The frequency response is flat down to about 6Hz with a fast rolloff below that. And extends up to about-1dB at 250kHz and a slow rolloff to-3dB at 1MHz, with more information in the notes included. The input impedance is greater than 10M ohm.
