Heathkit IB-1101 frequency counter, working and warranted
I bought this Heathkit IB-1101 frequency counter in the 1970s. I put myself through college fixing stereo equipment. And this counter served me well for those years. College ended in'82 and I've had little use for it since. I powered it up and fed my signal generator into it. Although it is only supposed to be an 80 MHz counter. As you can see, it does count to 90MHz. I noticed as I increased the frequency that the counter is very specific about voltage levels- too little or too much and it quits counting. At 80 MHz, it was much more forgiving. I never had the manual. And never needed it. It comes with the probe shown, which is made by Dynascan(B&K Precision) and is switchable 1:1 and 10:1, by removing and rotating the probe tip. Also comes with the power cord shown. This is the old-fashioned type with three round pins, so it's ... morehard to find. I warrant that it functions. Although I don't warrant calibration- I don't know if the counter or signal generator needs cal. If they were both calibrated, it would have read 90.000 MHz. Its Temperature Controlled Crystal Oscillator(TCXO- lower right in 5th photo) gives it accuracy that is right on par with the most expensive equipment that was available at the time. TEXSCAN TFC-7A FREQUENCY COUNTER
This counter is in good condition and clean. It has been tested in frequency counter mode and RF output mode. Using two different RF signal generators. Showed it is able to read from 2MHZ up to 470MHZ and it also shows the RF signal strength on its LED bar graph. In tune mode the RF out tunes from 0 MHz up to 400 MHz and the fine tune controls the RF output level shown on the LED bar graph. The power cord is taped at the strain relief due to some of the outer insulation missing. But there are no bare wires underneath the tape. It was taped only for support of the power cord. The front panel does show spotting but does not hurt the operation in any way. The readouts are clear and are all working as they should. Sencore Model FC71 Frequency Counter 10 Hz- 1 Ghz I picked up a few of these at an auction. They are great counters with LCD readout and both 50 ohm and 1 megohm inputs. As you can see from the photo it is working well with a signal generated by my HP signal generator at 820 Mhz. The agency that auctioned these removed all of the battery packs and didn't even bother to put the battery pack covers back on. You can see from one of the photos that the battery pack cover is missing. They also did not include the power packs or manuals so I had to improvise and locate a power pack that would work. Takes 12 VDC at about 3/4 of an amp. The power pack in the photo will be included. These are great counters and I'm keeping one for myself!
