These were used for food but also for other used like blood plasma. The last photo is from The GI Collectors Guide showing the can with the three stacked inserts. This is in partially restored condition. Apparently the can had rusted or corroded thru and someone had welded or soldered up the holes along the bottom of the can. There is some light rusting. Large WWII Mermite Military M1941 Insulated Field Food Container 1944
You are bidding on a very nice M1941 Military container. This one is in very good condition especially compared to how these are normally found. The enamel has a small spot missing on the interior side. Otherwise very nice throughout. There is also a small dent in the edge of the lid, but it does not affect the lid sealing. Overall very nice and solid. There is also some white paint spatter on the outside, but that could be removed easily. It is marked on the bottom of the lid under the enamel. Antique 1928 Heavy Metal Ice Cream~Dairy Container/Holder with Lid It is a very durable. Thick solid metal that I believe is insulated. There are NO dents! Perfect Shabby Chic piece for storing MANY different items! Showing its age and loads of character. This piece has some rust spots although it is extremely minor for the age of this piece and there are absolutely NO areas of this piece even being close to rusting through. The bottom base is hallmarked however not everything is easily read from wear. I am able to make out PENNA( APPROVED SERIAL NO. F-13. PATENTED, JUNE 12, 1928, NO. 167_845 and it also has the word LIQUID on it however I can not make out the wording before that. I do not see any other markings on this piece. The last photos show the hallmarking fairly well although I did have to alter the coloring of this piece in my photos ... morein order to get the markings to show.
