Antique Very Old Tinned Copper Ottoman or Civil War Large Water Canteen Flask
Offered is a very old antique tinned copper Ottoman. Or possibly Civil War Water Canteen or Flask, with metal hang rings. This measures 9" tall x 7.5" wide x 4" deep, including the spout.The rings each measure 1.5" in diameter. I see no markings, or signatures. I would consider the condition very good for it's age. The original metal hang rings still intact on each side. The spout his a few dings around the top edge, otherwise in good condition, I didn't fill it with water, but no holes are visible. This was used, and has what looks like patches on one side. The repairs were made while it was in use, or when originally made, nothing recent, as the patina is consistent throughout the piece. Rum, and water, and in lifeboats to dispense fresh water, rum and grog. These wooden water kegs were not only used to distribute water below decks and as safety equipment aboard lifeboats. But were also used to collect from the ships purser the daily rum ration(or grog) for the various messes aboard the ship when the rum ration was a staple part of every sailor's day.
