We have another one of the very rare Mettlach steins that was made in 1891. This stein has the mold number 2001 H is marked 1/2L and 7 1/2” tall to the top of the lid. The design as seen in the pictures is very elaborate with book bindings on the subject of Forestry. There are hairlines in the bottom in the shape of a spider and some pink staining. The pewter lid has a hiking motif which seems fitting to the subject of forestry. Normally you would find a lid with an owl thumblift. This is a good quality old lid that looks great. Very very green gabardine tunic. Gabardine wool, with period NON'MM. MARKED buttons, as shown. I am pretty sure this is either a Forestry or Falconry officer tunic, and I would call it a service tunic as its heavy duty and has plain cuffs. No insignia. Can easily see where collar tabs, and a cuff title once were, as well as button hole ribbon awards, one of which used red thread. Set up for slip on boards with shoulder strap buttons intact. As for size, its around a 40 Short, maybe 41 but not alot bigger, but its not tiny like alot of WWII tunics. 23.5 sleeve length from shoulder seam to cuff. US Forest Service Compass Nice early US Forestry compass made by the A. Lietz Co. in San Francisco. These were carried by rangers. There is snap on the backside of the metal case to attach to a belt. Works as it should Marked"Property of the US Forest Service" I believe this dates to the 1930s. Really great piece of history and hard to find!
