I'm listing some neat one of a kind items this week. This is a early Division of Forestry(CDF) Fire engine radio. Anyone who worked back in the 1960's/ 70's will remember these. The buttons on the top were for the repeater tones. The other buttons(L-R-S) were for Local(Your Unit) Region and State Net. It does not have a hand held Mic with it. Very few of these survived. You might say this was one of the earliest CDF training manuals. A full 62 pages of History. The pictures show the table of contents. I don't know how many of these survived, but probably not many. This is really a rare piece and is ONE of a kind. This is a large portfolio from Obsolete Iron Mine camp/Old Division of Forestry Region III. Each camp in the early days specialized in different area's such as wood working. Metal fabrication, painting, Etc. These are the plans for many of the items used in the early CDF fire Stations. There are plans in here for a Hose storage rack, sand table, chest of drawers, bedside nightstand, foreman's desk( Captain today) double bunk beds, cooks table, mess hall table, and many more items. Aluminum body 4" diameter K&E Forestry Compass in leather case made by J.G. Read Saddlery Co. in Ogden Utah. Compass works good and points to north. Flip up sights are 3-1/2" tall and in good shape except that sighting wire is a little bent up. Level vial appears to be dry. I do NOT see a bubble in it. Base of compass is tapped with very fine threads a little over 1/2" diameter. There is a brass fitting screwed into these threads that has a taper socket for mounting on a Jacobs Staff stick. U.S. Navy aviator's forestry green tunic named and dated June 17. 1918. Tailor made in Seattle. According to ID tag inside pocket and accompanying letter from CNO. Dept. of Naval Aviation History, the pilot was Robert E. Bering, Naval Aviator No. 2002. Bering stayed in after the war. He wears a very minty early Robbins wing. Unmarked, with"C" catch, and you can even see the line where the lacquer spray was dispersed by the pin. Small moth nips here and there otherwise in very presentable condition for its age.
