SILVER BIT W/ REIN CHAINS AND LARGE CONCHO ON SHANK...GOOD USING BIT
This is another great little blast from the past in a fine using bit. This is one of those shanks that will literally look good on any head. Just enough depth to pull your eye without looking cumbersome. The shank is similar to a Martinez or Ortega style shank with the minor variation of the big old concho right in the middle!The entire surface of the bit is engraved silver overlay. All of the shank is covered in a detailed swirl and feather design. The aforementioned concho is a hub cap style centered with a large single cactus flower and finished with a heavy rope edge. The mouth is a true 5" Salinas style with a copper hood and large textured roller. And is closer to a fixed shank than a loose one with just a little play. The bit is finished with a nice set of rein chains that are very clean with no rust, and all hardware is in good ... moreorder. There is no maker's mark on this bit, but the slobber bar is marked Mexico. I own a Fleming that is an exact match; this is the same quality. The length of the shank from the mouth is 6" I would say 95% of horses will wear this bit all day, this is a good one for the collector or show person to have in the arsenal. Not even worth putting a reserve on this one, it should come with matching handcuffs.it's a steal! This is a great chance to add a really nice bit to your collection, or have a nice bit to use without worrying about any little thing that may happen to it as you go along. Our guy Sergeant Thomas W. Olson brought these images back with him. I have a whole collection of postcards, photographs etc. from this very interesting anti Bolshevik enterprise, which for the Americans was never meant to be an anti Bolshevik enterprise. Most of this paper has some kind of issue, my camera makes the backs of the postcards i.e. look quite a bit worse than they really are it has a weird effect on some of the photos too generally they are very good quality but some reflection glosses or darkens some detail.
