Made by the Buckingham Manufacturing Company, not sure of age, but believe with the date code of 4-75 they were from the April 1975 era. The climbers are stamped on the main beam Buckingham BELL SYSTEM F. BUCKINGHAM 4-75, WE91171. in beam side is SHORT 14 3/4– 18 1/2 The top slide is adjustable. The gaffs are permanent CCA pole type and are 1 3/4”long. The shank is the contoured type. The top pads. Are stamped A.E. BURGESS LEA CO. 3-84. By the date I would assumed the pads were changed in 1984. The climbers have ... morebeen lightly cleaned. And the leather treated with leather oil. From the original owner, who worked for the Bell Telephone system as a lineman way back when, exact age is unknown. This is a pair of Pole/ tree climbers. Made by the Buckingham Manufacturing Company, not sure of age, but believe with the date code of 4-48, they were from the April 1948 era. The climbers are stamped on the main beam Buckingham BELL SYSTEM A. BUCKINGHAM 4-48, WE44114, and stamped 16 1/2 IN. The gaffs are permanent CCA pole type and are 1 3/4”long. The shank is the contoured type. One of the straps has WE89468 stamped on it. The climbers have been lightly cleaned. And the leather treated with leather oil. Condition* DUE TO AGE OF LEATHER. Vintage Bell Systems Buckingham Lineman Tree/Pole Climbing Spikes Full Set
This is a nice old vintage set of Bell Systems/Buckingham tree/pole climbing spikes. With the belt, harness, and bag to carry it all in. The spikes themselves are Bell/Buckingham, the leather leg straps are A.E. Burgess, and I believe the belt and harness are Klein-Buhrke. They are definitely used. But in perfectly usable shape. The harness obviously has more wear than anything due to the nature of its job. The spikes are in good shape-nice and sharp.with the caps. The belt has a tag that reads: Bell Systems"F Belt" Size 24. I'm not sure what the size code means. But it is 51" from tip to tip and fits my appx. 38" waist with ease. When buckled, there are still 5 notches left in the belt/8 more inches of room. Bag is pretty dusty/dirty. As it has been sitting in my shop for years. I bought these from a guy years ago, ... morebut have since decided that I am far too fat and accident prone to tempt fate. Nice set of vintage climbing gaffs. Made by the WH Buckingham Co. Stephens Climbers" 17 1/2L In 1896 Wilmont Stephens founded The Stephens Company in Binghamton. NY. Stephen’s Climber’ was handcrafted in his blacksmith shop and formed the genesis of entire product lines serving linemen and arborists. In 1913. W.H Buckingham purchased the firm and changed the name Stephens Company to what is now known as Buckingham Manufacturing Co. Inc. Notice the old stamping of the WH Buckingham Logo and the use of the"Stephens Climbers" in the stamping. I estimate these to be from 1913 to 1930. Great display item for man cave. Order No. 8497-PHILA-43, Binghamton, N.Y. Each of the four leather straps have"Buckingham" embossed in them and are original. The spikes have nice points and are in great shape. The leg pads are also good. The leather is strong and still pliable but has some flaking. The spikes and frames are steel and show no rust. This is a nice vintage pair of climbing spikes.
