There was a small amount of play in the knob, but it did not affect function. At each setting, the thermostat shut off the power once the desired temperature was reached(confirmed with a clamp-type ammeter) and the temperature(as measured with a cooking thermometer) was within 2-3 degrees of that set. The only negative things that I can find to say are mainly cosmetic- there is some staining. Some faded writing in magic marker and a very small amount of surface corrosion on the metal foot as pictured. Finally, the power cord is short- approx. 1 foot long. These sell for $1200 new and one just sold for $560 in February. This is the only one on ebay right now and on offer for a bargain price- don't miss out!

This item is in good condition with some minor cosmetic wear from normal use. There are a few minor scratched on the item and some chipped paint but this does not effect the functionality of the item. The power cable is in good condition with no cuts or frayed areas. We then put a glass beaker full of water and turned the heat and stir dial all the way up and let it sit for five minutes. The plate was extremely hot and the glass beaker was stirring. Up for auction is this Thermolyne Sybron Nuova 7 Stir-Plate/Hot Plate Model SP-18425 Series 231 120 V 7.3 Amps 865 Watts. Made in Dubuque. Iowa by the Thermolyne Corp. It measures 11" X 7"X almost 3 1/2" It all works. It heats up really fast and the stirrer works fine. The Heat light doesn't come on and I don't know if the knob on the burner is right. It turns but it seems loose. Doesn't affect the way it works. Has a built in power cord. It has burn marks on the plate and a couple of dents in the front of the plate. There is also some of the green paint missing to the right of the plate. The stirrer numbers on the knob are worn off. Its not in the prettiest shape but seems to do the job. Thermolyne Barnstead Nuova Stirring Hot Plate Model# SP18425 Comes with attached power cord. The plate vibrates more as the STIR knob is rotated clockwise. The plate gets hot pretty fast as the HEAT knob is rotated clockwise. At a setting of"3" the plate is much too hot to keep my hand on it. This unit is in very good condition. It was stored in a non original box along with some other parts. So I believe this unit got a few chips in the paint due to rubbing up against the other parts in the box. Comparing the condition of this unit to others on Ebay. I would rate it 9 out of 10. If you buy one of the these in new condition, prepare to drop about $800. May ship via Fedex.
