The change in sound of the motor inside when rotating the knob in either direction indicates that the speed control does vary the speed. We do not have the equipment to verify the actual RPM range but we did test this unit(and others we are selling) using the very scientific method of filling a styrofoam cup with water. Dropping a paper clip in it, and then watching the paper clip revolve at different speeds depending on which direction, and how far, the speed control knob was rotated. See photo of bottom. Lab equipment in our experience is sometimes rusty or stained on the bottom. Showing it was not well taken care of and/or people were careless about cleaning it in the event of a spill. The bottom of this item and the two other higher-end(but same size and number of stirring stations; same brand) stirrers we have recently listed show no signs of this. Thermolyne Cellgro 45600 S45625 Multi 5-point Magnetic Stirrer. The company is also known as Barnstead/Thermolyne. Good working condition. The front speed control knob functions. The change in sound of the motor inside when rotating the knob in either direction indicates that the speed control does vary the speed. We do not have the equipment to verify the actual RPM range but we did test this unit(and others we are selling) using the very scientific method of filling a styrofoam cup with water. Dropping a paper clip in it, and then watching the paper clip revolve at different speeds depending on which direction, and how far, the speed control knob was rotated. See photo of bottom. Lab equipment in our experience is sometimes rusty or stained on the bottom. Showing it was not well taken care of and/or people were careless about cleaning it ... morein the event of a spill.
