I bought this analyzer for a 1296 MHz transverter project about a year ago. It has served well for this purpose. Allowing measurement of LO amplitudes and harmonics, mixer performance, and filter shapes. I have since lost interest in this work(preferring HF) so I need to pass it on. The display is bright and sharp. And all of the main features of the instrument work fine with one exception. The plastic part of the Frequency Span/Div knob is missing, with the brass hub remaining. However, due to the interlocking behavior of the Span and Resolution BW knobs, both of these controls can be set any way you want by pushing/pulling the Res BW knob. In fact, most of the time it is best to leave them locked so that the Span and Res BW will track in an optimum fashion. These settings are displayed on the screen. I have used the analyzer up to about ... more3 GHz. And the levels and spectrums have been consistent with expected behavior. The input step attenuator and level control also behave in a consistent manner. The storage feature and peak hold appear to be working fine. There are some other features such as the HP-IB connection and rear panel outputs that I have not used. Overall this instrument is in very nice condition. As shown in the pictures. It will be shipped with the front handles installed to protect the controls. Note that most of the pictures were taken without the handles.

A VERY NICE SYSTEM! I bought this combination on ebay when my Boonton 4400 quit. I fixed the Boonton and never got around to using this system. I tried it out a couple of times and it does seem to work correctly but I've never had it calibrated, never really used it, and never figured it out so I can't really vouch for its operation. To get the display you see in the picture I just hit the"AUTO-SCALE" button. The 84812A zeros correctly, using the markers I measured a positive peak value of +10 dBm and a negative peak value of-12dBm from the calibrator. With the sensor disconnected but unterminated, I measured a noise floor of-42dBm. The calibration seals are intact on the 8991A, the 84812A has been pried open for repair at some point. Which was missing at purchase. It does however have a clear bezel that could be renumbered for the eight positions. The display will clear and does produce a trace. But is independent of any audio input or adjustment of the controls. There is an end cap missing from one of the small push switches. For sale is the well known HP 8753A vector network analyzer. Which is a very popular model covering the frequency range 300 kHz to 3 GHz. Although no longer offically supported by Agilent, in practice there is plenty of support available for this. Agilent will still calibrate it, there is the Agilent/HP Yahoo group and the Agilent VNA forums. So if you find you need help, you will have far more support than with Anritsu or Rohde& Schwarz. The auction includes the 85046A S-parameter test set- not the cheaper transmission/reflection test set. The S-parameter test set is much better than the transmission/reflection test set. As you can inject a signal into a 2-port device from either end, without removing the device and turning it around. The S-parameter test test also allows one to do a full 2-port calibration, which is the most accurate ... moreform of calibration. The VNA has option 010 fitted. Which permits measurements in the time domain. This is particularly powerful, as you can look at a specific section in time, then convert that back to the frequency domain.
