For sale is an HP 334A Distorsion Analyzer in good working condition. With the execption of several scuffs and paint scrapes. The analyzer is in good physical condition. Electrically, all functions appear to work normally. The AC voltmeter, manual and automatic distorsion measurement functions were tested with an HP 8904A signal generator. In automatic mode, the unit measured a distorsion of-66 dB for a 1 kHz sinewave with 1 V peak amplitude. This is about 3 dB below the specified distorsion level for the HP 8904A. The measured voltage is 0.7 Vrms. The distorsion measurement of an AM RF signal was tested with a Panasonic VP-8179P AM/FM signal generator. HP 334A Distortion Analyzer This HP 334A Distortion Analyzer has been an excellent. Accurate and reliable piece of test equipment on my work bench for last 8 years. It has had no problems at all. It is very useful for accurate calibration, adjustment or analysis of amplifier characteristics and behavior(setting bias. Making circuit adjustments, prototyping, designing, troubleshooting, etc. All functions work properly on this unit. Although the spec says that it measures harmonic distortion down to 0.1% from 5 Hz to 600 kHz. The analyzer is capable of measuring down to 0.03% I have actually seen this when probing a Class-A vacuum tube amplifier with the filter switch applied and an originating signal generator producing a very clean sine-wave injected into the circuit! Please note that this auction is for the HP334A Distortion Analyzer and ... morenot the Tektronix oscilloscope shown in the photo. The oscilloscope in the photos is being used to demonstrate that the HP334A is in good working condition. As one of the primary features utilized on this distortion analyzer is the ability to monitor the harmonic distortion product in real-time. This audio analyzer was pulled from a working lab because it was replaced by a newer unit. Vintage Hewlett Packard HP 334a Distortion Analyzer parts repair project
Hewlett Packard 334a Distortion analyzer. Has optional DC supply inputs. Comes with mounting ears. Retired from a radio station and has been in storage for several years. Unknown calibration state. I don't have the necessary RF test gear to really check this for operation. So all I've done is plug it in, turn it on and verify that it doesn't blow fuses. Unit is being sold AS IS for repair. The inside is very clean however, so it shouldn't be too difficult a job to get it up to spec. I do note that the slip pin connectors are very tarnished, so I'd start there first. Outside is typical of a unit that saw commercial use, i.e. lots of scratches and the edges. Mild corrosion on the aluminum bits. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. The only thing that I can find missing is the bottom front trim piece of oak. And they have not been modified. From my own bench. Here's a very nice, working, tested HP 334A. I used it for audio testing, and verified that it is in spec at 100Hz, 1K, 10K, and 30KHz. It is utterly reliable. The automatic null function works great, and once it locks on it just doesn't budge; rock steady. The voltmeter has likewise been tested and verified accurate, using a Fluke meter for comparison. In day to day use, I have not found it to have any operational issues. Cosmetically. This one is very nice. The front face is nearly free of scratches and dings, and the screen printing is sharp and clear. Even the top rail, which usually gets beat to snot, ... moreis almost free of scratches. There are some scratches, of course(side panel under the handle) which I have tried to highlight in the photos. Please examine the photos and see what you think. Note that this is a"later generation" 334A. Early versions used a proprietary oval plug on the AC cord. This does have some wear but cosmetically I would consider it to be in good used condition. This did not power up when I plugged it in. I am not an expert on these so I am not sure what is wrong. Hewlett Packard Model 200C Wide Range Audio Oscillator(S/N# A2203) Item is in FAIR overall physical condition and needs a FULL restoration. This item was Hewlett Packard’s 3rd series of their original product and the 200C offered a 4th range that allowed the unit to cover 20-200KHz in 4 ranges. We believe that this unit is an early production unit from the early 1940’s and it appears to be complete. The power cord was old and cracked with bare wire exposed so we cut it off. There is light surface rust on the unit since these early units had very thin paint but with a little steel wool cleaning and some good Grey enamel paint. This unit could be made to look very nice. The last time it was calibrated according to a calibration sticker on the side of the unit was in the very early 1960’s. Hewlett Packard HP HP-333A DISTORTION ANALYZER- NR! Same as 334A except no RF Audio Detector. Needs repair. You are bidding on a used HP 333 DISTORTION ANALYZER. We verified the unit powers up but nothing more. IT NEEDS REPAIR AND IN ITS PRESENT CONDITION IS UNUSABLE. The meter moves when various switches are rotated but the voltmeter function does not respond when a known signal is applied to the input. Some surface grime and scratches are present. The side trim rails are scratched from handling and the right handle is free moving(without the spring loading) All internal boards and components appear to be present. It does not have feet or the wire stand. The front panel looks fairly clean with some label residue and some scratches along the top. We are not the original owner. We are offering this unit at a low minimum bid due to our need ... moreto reduce inventory. We simply can no longer afford to do detailed troubleshooting/repair and not recover our labor costs. HP Hewlett Packard 334A Distortion Analyzer + Manual -Tested-
Here is a HP 334A Distortion analyzer. Cosmetics are very nice. I did some basic testing but I cannot guarantee it is completely functional and it is sold as-is. I tested the voltmeter in Volts and DB function at 1 khz. Properly terminated, and the pictures show the result compared to a Fluke DMM. 1 Volt RMS and then 0 DBm. I tested the distortion measurement function at 20 khz from an oscillator and after adjusting the controls and switching to Automatic mode I got a reading of about.055% which seems reasonable but I cannot guarantee the accuracy. Tests were only done to show it not DOA, not as a guarantee of 100% operation. The controls and switches could probably benefit from a cleaning. Again, this unit is sold as-is.
