Vintage Heathkit SB-300 HAM Amateur Radio Receiver
Here's your chance to get a great deal on a classic Heathkit SB-300 receiver. I've been meaning to get this unit on the bench along with a half dozen others in my shop but just haven't had the time and more and more I need the space so I'm just going to start throwing these up on eBay untested and let the chips fall where they may. This particular unit is in very good shape cosmetically. It is very clean both inside and out. The paint on the case is pretty faded but the faceplate is in great shape. All tubes and crystals are installed and appear to be in good shape. There are a few places where the lettering on the circuit boards is flaked off but most of it is legible and you should be able to piece together everything from the manual. I do not have the power cord but that should be a very easy fix. I am also missing the ... moredummy plug but you can easily stick a couple of jumper wires in the socket to take care of that issue(refer to readily available operator's manual if you don't know what I mean here) I do note that there are a couple of old electrolytic capacitors. Probably original, still mounted under the chassis so I recommend you replace them. At the very least plan to use a Variac the first time you power this baby up because this unit has been sitting for a long time and those caps will probably let the smoke out if you just hammer them with 120V right out of the gate. All this having been said. This unit is being sold AS IS. I am not representing it as a fully operable receiver so you should assume it is going to take a little work to get it going. I will still accept returns within 14 days if you put in a good faith effort and find it unsatisfactory. But please, let's avoid that unpleasantness and make sure this is both in your wheelhouse and it is what you really want BEFORE you bid. UPDATE 6-26-2014 For those who've been watching this auction. VINTAGE HEATHKIT MONO FM-3A TUNER. HEATHKIT A-7 AMPLIFIER, LARGE QUAM 12" SPEAKER ALL ENCLOSED IN VERY NICE WOOD CABINET WITH ORIGINAL FINISH. It's very rare to find the amplifier, tuner and speaker all together in an original wood cabinet. This unit is very clean and has been well taken care of. This is one of many items in my father's estate. He was an electronic technician, and a ham radio operator for over 50 years, He built this Heathkit many years ago. I'm sure he had intentions of restoring the tuner, but time didn't permit. This was stored in a good environment and has no rust. A CD player was recently hooked up to the amplifier, and it sounded great. It has no hum whatsoever, and is loud and clear with no distortion. I can pick up stations on the FM tuner for a short time. The tubes all light up, as does the ... moredial light. All knobs move freely as well as the dial indicator. The grill cloth is in nice condition as well as the wood cabinet, except for a few places on the very bottom where some small pieces of veneer had broken off, probably from moving it. It had been touched up, so not noticeable. Dimensions of cabinet: 31" high x 16" wide x 9" deep. Because this is vintage electronics, I am selling it as is. All functions work as expected with an nice warm tube sound from all components. This is a Heathkit A-9C tube hi-fi amplifier that was converted into a guitar amplifier. Great sounding guitar amplifier. Uses a pair of 6L6 power tubes for 20 watts of power. The knobs on the front panel have been converted( from left to right) to volume. Volume,treble and bass.One quarter inch jack on the front for the instrument and one quarter inch jack on the back for the speaker.You can select the speaker impedence(refer to photo)Amplifier is mounted on a wood base. The only way I can describe the tone is it's like a cross between a Hiwatt and a blackface Fender. This makes a great studio amp. Amplifier is in very good condition.Works great and is fully tested and guaranteed.Some wear from age.

I would imagine the parts alone would be worth more than my beginning asking price. There are lots of parts/tubes under the hood that I feel sure someone could use if the unit as a whole is not in working order. The first Heathkit Digital personal computer from 1977 with several interface cards, including a very early and rare 256K Static Ram board, manufactured with wire wrapping technology! These early artifacts of computing are more and more collected by enthusiasts who recognize their importance; the first model of Steven Job's Apple computer sells for hundreds of thousands of Dollars at auction! The machine here offered is the first computer manufactured and sold by Heathkit. I personally tested this computer following the test routine outlined on pages 1 through 14 in the manual which comes with the computer(it is a copy. Not an original) These computers ... morewere initially sold with a 16K RAM. Besides the original 16K RAM. This computer comes with a very rare, in wire wrap technology manufactured 256K RAM extension board which was added some time during 1980 or shortly thereafter. The speed with which the technology advances has not changed; today home computers have 16G RAM. An increase of factor 1,000,000 over the 16K memory of this computer which was built starting in 1977! Imagine! This computer has still its original motherboard with the 8080 chip. The model number is 85-1938-1. Other cards are: 16K static RAM. 256K static RAM. Uses 16 Toshiba TMM 2016 P-1 chips, Controller Board. And H8-4 Multi Port Serial I/O. The model numbers of the boards are corresponding with the stickers on the back of the H8 computer case. As mentioned before. This computer comes with a copy of the 96 page Manual which is very detailed and includes, Instructions, Test Routines, Troubleshooting, Operation, Theory of Operation, System Considerations, and more!
