I just performed the calibration procedure using a digital meter and a good oscilloscope. The audio generator looks like new and is working perfectly. Up for your consideration is a Heathkit Model IM-22 Audio Analyzer, dating from the late 1950s or 1960s. It is in good used condition. And it is operable on most functions and ranges. This is a very useful instrument for use in pro and consumer audio. Technician testing, and R&D work. This meter is a vacuum tube-based tester that functions as an AC voltmeter. Audio testing dummy load(multiple impedances) output level meter for pre-amps and power amps, and an IM distortion analyzer. The case and chassis are aluminum. The meter is big and easy to read(markings are not faded) and the carrying handle is in good condition. Please see the photos for detailed views. Knowing that there are similar instruments out there right now, I'd like to tell you a few things about this one, as not much is said about the others. I obtained this meter ... morein some trades as one of several items. But I have not used it, except to test its functionality. It came to me with no manual or test leads. It basically worked upon first try, but not on all ranges. The entire instrument, especially t he meter itself. Is in good to very good condition(see photos) The two most significant problems are the seized up Load Switch and the 10 dB reading error when in the output level function. The VTVM function(which is for AC signals only) works OK and calibrates reasonably close to be usable. This is NOT a"precision" instrument, such as made by HP, or others. There are internal calibration adjustments, but I found them to be very interactive, not dedicated to a single function. Here is a summary of what I found when testing and evaluating this item: The Load Switch. Which selects a 4, 8, 16, or 600 ohm load either internal to the instrument(25 watts max. or external. Or presents a Hi-Z input impedance, is seized. It will not turn with the knob. I removed the knob and rotated the switch a few positions either side of center using a small Vice-Grip pliers. This is a nice Heathkit audio dummy load for testing amplifiers. Contains 4 8ohm/60watt resistors which can be configured in a variety of ways to allow a single channel 8ohm/240W load. Two channels of 4ohm/120W load, 4 channels of 8ohm/60w loads etc. See the photo of the front panel for all the options. Works fine,all binding posts are in good shape. I do not have the various shorting clips used to jumper the binding posts together, but you can just use pieces of jumper wire to accomplish the same thing.
